Kingstonian V Enfield Town

Disappointing result. The final twitter on the club's official site suggests that we lacked the mobility to enable us to keep up with the pace set by the "K ". Something which has been obvious for some time and to which I have suggested needed to be  addressed on several previous occasions.

However, I look forward to hearing the observations and views of those who were there.

A good evening spoilt by 90 minutes of very poor football from us. We were outplayed, out fought and it would have been no injustice if they score two or three more. Despite the recent run of results there has been little or no progress. We are still playing dreadful football, defensive mistakes, little invention in midfield and no potency up front. I can not detect any improvement being achieved and I have to say that our league position is providing false hope. We are a poor side, either the tactics are wrong, players not good enough or management decisions wrong. Either way it isn’t working, if we go on this way we will be fighting relegation and losing support. The away fan base is dwindling fast, not surprisingly! The Board need to reflect on the situation and act quickly.

But will they.!!!!

Probably not,we elected the board to make important decisions on the members behalf,we trusted them when they appointed the current manager so now we much trust them to review the situation.

A manager who has gone 6 mnths into the current season without a recognised left back needs to explain himself imo.

Players refusing to join the town something we as fans are not used to

You have to ask the question why.

If what Vman says is true, and I have no reason to doubt him, it seems that the chickens are starting to come home to roost. There has to be something very wrong if players from lower leagues do not wish to be part of our set up and play at QE11 stadium. But I don't wonder,  as I can make a pretty shrewd guess as to WHY!!!!

MTHead states " we are still playing dreadful football " and his 3 following observations suggest that we haven't improve much since the beginning of the season. At that time quite a few members called me all manner of things for even suggesting such a thing.

That said, I still think we should survive in the league because there are even worse teams than us. It would be nice to see some quality players signed but at this time the main priority for the Management must be for us to survive. Their target should be at least another 20 points from 20 games in order for us to maintain our current position. Last year year we obtained 37 points in our last 20 games so 20 points this time should not be unrealistic. That being the height of my expectations.

But some very hard decisions will have to be made soon in order to turn things around before the start of next season.

It’s worrying to hear that several players have been approached and refused the opportunity to join us. The inference is that it is the reason is that they did not like the club setup, or is it the wages. Some of course will not join out of loyalty and personal circumstances. In any case has the board undertaken a review of this and understand why. I don’t expect, nor do I think that supporters should be in the know, however the board must get a full grip on this before we go much further. It is very difficult at our level for a manager to deal with keeping a fit squad, keeping all players happy is almost impossible and illness, holiday, injury is all making the job harder. However other managers / clubs perform this balance, we have ( by all accounts ) a healthy playing budget why can’t we find new players of the quality we require to prevent a poor first half of the season becoming one where we find ourselves looking to avoid relegation. As I have said earlier the current position in the table is false, we have been lucky to sqweek draws and wins on a number of occasions ( curtesy of Joe Wright) and at no time have I seen anything like the standard required to be successful in this league. The Board can not afford to be complacent. They need to have a good independent look at the situation and act as they see fit. They are responsible and have a duty to the supporters, members and volunteers to arrest this situation before much longer.

I agree... Enfield is still a big name in non league football with a great ground and great supporters....local players should be knocking at the door wanting to play for us... if they don't wish to join because of football reasons and not personal reasons then this has to be looked at...The team at the moment is nowhere near good enough for promotion... i knew that from the start that's why I hoped for a mid table finish and that's why I always fight Andys corner because I think he's done a good job with what was available at the time but I've been watching non league for forty plus years and think I'm a fair judge of talent and would say maybe only four or five out of this squad would be promotion standard players.....

Theo - yes Ryan B turned them down - it was on one of the post match interviews with Andy.

Well I havent seen us play since Harlow - struck down with a terrible cold since the day after getting soaked there - was hoping to get to a few of the recent games.

I am still in the camp of supporting AL and giving him time - 1 defeat in 8 after all - but my perhaps slightly optimistic post of us being able to make the play offs seems way off after last night.

My questions/thoughts/concerns/comments are:

1 - substitutions - at 2-0 down at 1/2 time, we did not make a change? According to the report we did not make any until 69 mins, after going 4-1 down on 62 mins - surely it is too late for the subs to make an impact if the game is over? This has been an ongoing issue in my head - we don't try and change the game when struggling either. I would like to have seen Calver or BWC on at half time to show our intent.

2 - is it just in my head, or do we seem to have had more players "unavailable" this season. I dont begrudge Liam a holiday he will have booked before joining, and certainly not Simon Thomas having a baby, but it does seem to happen far more often across the squad?

3 - can't comment on the point above about players turning us down - but if it is true that is very concerning - when you see the atmosphere at a home game, we have a special club with a large and vocal fan base .. why would someone not want to step up to join us? I hear our budget is not an issue Was a reason ever given for Railston to leave at the start??

4 - Defence needs some new, quicker blood - dont believe I've seen the youngster George QC play competitively, but if he is quick why not give him a go?

I was personally surprised Kirby didnt walk straight back into the side v Worthing after injury for the positive impact he has made - After seeing the goals we conceded on youtube, I do feel his organisation could have made a difference there.

5 - AL was interviewed after the game last night (see Mick Sullivan - twitter), and full respect to him for holding his hands up and saying it was poor - horrendous, one of his poorest games ever! AL commented of a target of Top 8 finish - in my head I have always believed that our ambition is to target the play offs? Whilst a tall order especially after the last 2 games, is that not still the case?

6 The interview with the Kingstonian manager last night was also interesting - he said that the players he brought in on arrival (he joined them once the season started) hadn't cut it so he had to make more changes. Now I have always backed the fact that building a side from scratch was a tough ask for AL - but now we are 1/2 way in, if Kingstonian can change theirs then so should we be able to? We must have contacts at other clubs to bring in a few loan players who aren't getting games etc? I'm no expert here but recently the likes of Jey Sivya and Claudio Vilcu have joined lesser clubs (no disrespect intended) and would both clearly improve our team, and know ETFC as a club.

Andy continues to have my full backing as a fan - but I would like to see some of these issues addressed.

How frustrating this all is, because I do believe we have potential and like others, I will continue to support AL as I do believe starting from scratch is a tough job.

But I do agree that the defence is our major issue, and this is having a major effect, not just in the obvious way like the abismal loss last night, but as our defence isn’t upto standard we are relying on playing the likes of Dan out of position. Because our defence isn’t upto scratch we can’t play 2 up front (as we need more at the back to compensate for lack in ability), so again Hockney is played out of position.

I agree with the previous comment of trying out young George Quartington Carter, he played with us pre-season, so why not give him a go?

For me I would like to see a left back brought in on loan, George given a go, and those playing out of position the chance to play where their strengths lie. We have nothing to lose in trying different things, it can’t get any worse than last night.

Just don't feel the players we brought in are overall strong enough to be anything other than an average side at best.

Without Joe in goal and the signing of Aaron Greene we would be near the bottom of the table.

I also think we are also lucky that this is the worst set of teams quality-wise that i have ever seen in this league. We have played against lots of poor quality sides this season.Which may have given us a false league position. And false hope.

Exactly what I believe LS. It was soon blatantly obvious that the core of our side was not up to it. But the manager stuck with it for reasons only he knows.

Last year we were doing almost as badly at this time but, on various recommendations, BradQ brought in Crook. He was willing to join even though our budget was tighter. We immediately improved and others followed. This resulted in our climb up the table. So what is so different this year????

It's going to be an interesting AGM only wish I could be there. I do hope that those members who feel as strongly as I do ask the questions which they have raised over the past few weeks in order to clear the air.
