I am not quite up to speed on all the requirements for particular ground gradings and so it is good to have someone knowledgeable, like Carjam, to explain these points. So please, Carjam, could you list the points over which Park Lane should have failed the criteria for Premier grading that the league assessors failed to notice.
I do seem to remember reading somewhere that grading involves height of perimeter fence, number of seats, total accommodation, covered accommodation, light output of the floodlights (try not to live in the past - they were repaired three days after the Canvey v G&N game), plus a few other points concerning ability to segregate, number of toilets and wheelchair access.
However, your erudite contribution is eagerly awaited. I say erudite because some other cretins just go on about Park Lane being crap, ugly, being jealous of the club's success, disliking the club manager or chairman, being near to an oil refinery, the club bribing league officials or simply that some of the fans are too clever by half. You are far too well informed to fall into that categorie I'm sure so, instead, you are going to give us a serious list of why the ground isn't fit for the Premier and now, for the Conference.
On the other hand you could just admit that you made a mistake and the humble Park Lane is fit for the Premier and (by 1st April) will be fit for the Conference but that you just don't like Canvey and find it difficult to come to terms with their success.
Merv CIFC

Hello Mr Carjam - which one of us B Eagles are you talking to?

You see Mr Imposter Eagle, you may well be more follicley challenged than myself but already you are causing confusion.
Mr Iron Knob,

We may well be a new club and not the same outfit as in the Southern League days but in my eyes it's the same club with the same badge. The supporters would certainly believe that. I'm only just old enough to have experienced about 10 games of the old Eagles but I feel as though I'm supporting the same club.
I suppose describing us as a "sleeping giant" could be seen as inaccurate if you want to be picky. We were more a dead giant who, several years later, were reborn as minnows and have battled our way up. At last we are at a level where it really is a challenge and we cannot expect just to cruise through the division. It's been an interesting season (and just slightly depressing!) compared to challenging at the top every season for the last 10 years.

Mr Merv,

I certainly do not hate Canvey, as for the chairman/manager etc, never mentioned any of them to any extent. I enjoy non-league football and hate to see any other teams in trouble. I have been watching the Fleet since the late sixties and have seen many teams come and go. Many of them have had similarities with your own.
I do not know the exact requirements for the conference and am not about to start surfing the net to find them. The ground argument is old now and you must know, in your heart of hearts that Park Lane is lacking.. Your own words..
I supect that with the exception of the Floodlights all of the criteria above especially the second, third and forth point must be in doubt.
Have you been to any away matches and seen other stadiums?.

I have visited many and have found very few that I would rank below Park Lane. Perhaps Fareham, Dunstable, Ruislip. Thats how poor Park Lane is. There is talk of a new ground now. 289 supporters on Tuesday surely cannot merit it though.
If you win the league, well never mind. I perhaps lack ambition. Do you really want all that travelling, crowd segegation, higher prices, constantly hearing 'You're supposed to be at home', and loosing games (something you are not used to.
Finished
And Bald EAgle 1 or 2
Can you say that the Bedford club has not got any relationship with our old friends Bedford Town, in any way whatsoever.

To be fair on you carjam you are correct in saying we have moved to quickly upwards,(victims of our own success one could say), but like Merv states it has a great atmosphere and ,(re bagpuss) "it's a raggerty old ground but Canvey fans love it just the same" and we will fix it we will fix it, etc

I'd say there would be some mixed feelings from Canvey fans regarding the new ground proposal, I for one have grown fond of the ground the other fans and the atmosphere and feel the new ground , (like moving into a new house it never feels like home straight away), will take time to get used to and for the atmosphere to ingrain itself into it.

Still onwards and upwards.
[ 03 March 2002: This message was edited by: canfan ]

And Canfan, at the mo, I really wouldent like to say who will win promotion. I will now say that Aldershot are out. Its between just two teams now. Look out for Bedford, they seem on form. Is your own form so good that you can be sure of a win. Reports from the Hendon game are not convincing.
CJ
