They are not happy

Recommended Posts

The early postings on their message board suggest they were awful - worse than a poor Gravesend, and that they managed to miss half a dozen chances from the 6 yard line.

Why cant other teams like this ever accept defeat graciously?? Too many sides seem to think they have a divine right to beat the part time sides in the league.

4 games against Exeter - 2 clean sheets at their place and 2 victories in normal play plus 2 draws (3 victories and 1 draw if you allow for the penalty victory in the Cup) - and some of their fans still think they're good enough for promotion. I dont think so, somehow. grin.gif

To be fair, Steve Flack's diving header against the bar from close range was a tough chance, and O'Reilly was well beaten. However, I agree, some of their other close range misses were bizarre - particularly Flack's weak miscue when completely unmarked (which also struck the bar) shortly afterwards.

A great dogged display today with a coolly-taken goal by Essandoh. Delighted to see O'Reilly pick up his first 90-minute clean sheet (apart from his one fumble from which Devine somehow struck wide, his handling from crosses was excellent), although Skinner was my man of the match - he saved us time and time again with his tackling. We weren't always convincing, but luckily Exeter's poor finishing saw us through. Another great away day (starting to wonder whether to bother coming to the home games... only kidding grin.gif).

Some sensible comments posted on their forum but many want to get shot of their forward line!

So our back four were dodgy, our keeper couldn't catch a cold, the ref was useless and numerous remarks of not beating 'crap teams' or 'Gravesend were crap.' Hmmm... well that's their 4th attempt this season, say no more!

I don't know what their whingeing about,I note that they reckon we are a crap team, well on the evidence of yesterday we outplayed them for most of the game ('specially in the 1st half) so what does that make them?

They certainly had their chances,as did we,but i was left with a feeling of dread after our dominance in the first half, and once again nowt to show for it,that we would do our usual second half and lose form thankfully that did't happen,Essendohs' well taken goal came nice and early and perhaps stiffened our resolve.

Protheroe & Skins were immense, and Essendoh led the line well, and the difference Shearer makes to the back line with his extra pace should be noted AF,the whole team played really well, controlled the midfield, kept the ball to feet mostly which is the best way for us.

Even O'Reilly looked safer, though he still doesn't dominate the goal area, unlike a certain Mr. Wilko.

OK Excretias' finishing was crap and they should have scored at least twice, where have we heard that before? but we could easily have had two more, right at the death Pinnock had a great chance which the keeper saved which never got a mention on any of the reports iv'e seen.

I thought we were superb ! Fair enough, they had plenty of chances, but we had plenty of our own.

However, the thing that struck me most was how the Exeter fans got on their players backs from fairly early on and, as a result, how Exeter players began to make more and more mistakes as the game went on. There was also plenty of abuse being hurled at their Manager later on( I have to own up and say that a friend and I sat in their main stand ).

The point being, of course, that we've seen the same thing time and again at Stonebridge Road. If only our home-only fans could see how much more confident the team play away from home without the constant moaning and really got behind them, then I really do believe we are good enough to be a top ten outfit.

Roy showed real quality with the goal and seeing AF jumping for joy at the end was great.

Onwards and upwards !!!!!!!!!!!!

And it was yet another Ryman League player who completed their far from happy day. Now where is the cynic whom complained that we had yet another Ryman League player again? I would ask them to compare the benefits we have had from Ryman League players to any we have had from League players on loan. I do agree I think supporters have a lot to answer for and the ones that travel away are doing a magnificent job. I am sure it is a minority that do the whingeing at home but unfortunately they are the more vociferous element of any club. Well done to the team and all who went to Exeter.

Good to see many people went to cheer the Fleet. I think all the posts on here about staying away because of the Exeter financial position was just the "only turn up when we are winning mob".

I resent that remark!

I resent that remark too.

Yes I did take the day off work yesterday.

Instead of giving my money to those who may possibly cost our club £20,000 + (although there are unconfirmed rumours that the FA may now be taking on the case for the conference), I chose to spend some quality time at home.

Although I couldn't stay away from the net between 15.00 & 17.00!
