Have Canvey got it in the bag or have they thrown it all away???

As a gravesend surporter i am very worried about the amount of games we have to catch up.

I just think about canveys problems last season, when they were playing catch-up with farborough.

Even though gravesend have the upper hand, i honestly think that canvey are the best team in the league and will win.

Obviously i hope not!!!

I would be very interested to hear about what canvey island surporters think.

Would they rather have 4 games in hand and 8 points behind?

I suppose the 26th of march will probably decide it though anyway!!

Gazza701, why worry? If you come second, you'll still go up.
Can you honestly think that the Conference league will agree to Canvey going up with their facilities? Stranger things have happened but not, I think, that!!!
Good luck this Saturday. I think the score will be 5-0 to you as really, we are not the team we should be.
I won't be there (shame) as I'm in Wales for the weekend (Can't leave them sheep alone - actually, they show more coommitment than some of our players so I'm going to suggest that we employ 11 sheep. They at least go around as a team) but have a good afternoon.

on G and N's current form 4 games in hand is worth about 10 points plus our game with them is at thier place, so G and N are in the ascendancy at the moment in my opinion, yes they have to fit more games in but we are still in the trophy and we know what that does to a fixture list long way to go yet thought

List any two criteria where Park Lane fails to meet the requirements of the Conference League. Don't get sidelined into crappy ground, fat manager, smelly oil rifinery nonsense because even if they were true, they do not form part of the ground grading system.
Be objective and tell us just two criteria upon which Park Lane will fail. We're all waiting.
Merv CIFC

Canvey's ground meets the criteria on every point you raise with the exception of terracing which has to be modifed by 1st April. The work is almost complete and well on schedule.
Too many people post messages, like yours, which are based purely on jealousy and envy. They knock Park Lane because it isn't pretty, it isn't modern and it isn't spacious, but not one of you has been able to name a single valid criterion on which it fails to meet the Conference grading requirement.
Don't just bleat on about your own aganda, stick to the actual requirements of the football league. Sorry, Mate, but Park Lane meets them(with the exception mentioned above).
Now be big enough to admit you were wrong.
Merv CIFC
BTW Gazza BTFC, I'm still waiting for your reply or your admission that you were wrong.

Surely (if I can be permitted a blackadder quote) the crowning t*rd in the water pipe is that Park lane is on Canvey Island. If that isn't grounds enough for it to fail the grading requirments, then it bl**dy well should be! tongue.gif" border="0
[ 06 March 2002: This message was edited by: Simon BTFC ]

If that isn't grounds enough for it to fail the grading requirments, then it bl**dy well should be!

You miss the point. We're not talking about what you or others think the ground grading requirements ought to be or should be, but about what they are. Several of you have made all kinds of rash statements about Park Lane but my challenge was for any one of you to be specific and tell me which of the criteria - the real ones, not the ones you would like to see - which of the criteria it will fail on. Nobody has come up with anything.
If, on the other hand, we want to talk about why clubs should fail to be promoted based on our own prejudices, then the field is wide open. I don't think G&N should be promoted (should they win the league) because their manager is a pillock. Billericay because the burger bar is the slowest serving refreshment stand in the northern hemisphere. Bit pointless, wouldn't you agree?
My challenge still stands. Someone tell me one of the REAL criteria on which Park Lane will fail the grading process. You can't and none of you are big enough to admit that your postings have been wrong.
Merv CIFC

At last. We're talking sense.
Promotion should be on quality of the burgers. Top of the league is Purfleet with their Fleetburger. Bottom is Croydon with their cardboard - no, not even cardboard - thin, soggy brown paperburger.
What about most attractive ground setting being the decider? Chesham, with the rolling hills and the valley setting go top. Have to be honest here, Canvey go next to bottom. Who is actually bottom? Croydon. Don't ask me why, I just hate Croydon.
Merv CIFC

Perhaps even more important - the quality (and variety) of beer. This season the current leader is Chesham - v nice draught ale (can't remember what it was called) and I think they did an IPA as well. Other than that I can report a decent Guiness at Billericay, Boreham and last night at St. Albans (again a question, why is the boardromm so much nicer than the bar at Clarence park?) Disappointed to miss the Grays trip (on the beer criteria only you understand) as they had an interesting range there last season. I think the league should introduce a rule requiring each club to have a different guest ale. This would at least ensure some interest in end of season bore draws. Perhaps the worst beer this season was Purfleet - very poor range, ended up with some flat lager.

Well, well, well, I started something. Well done Simon, keep it up.
Merv, hand on heart, do you really think Park Lane is up to standard. Consdering that only a month ago you lost your Conference status, if the comments on this board concerning the work required by the Conference that has to done to your ground, can be believed?
Come on mate, take off those rose coloured glasses and admit it. Park Lane is not up to standard.
Okay, it's your home ground and you have a loyalty to it as I do to New Lodge. Hey, if and when the new stand goes up, a lot of what makes New Lodge "home" to me will disapear but there is no way I would say that it is up to Conference level now.
I will concede that bar at Park Lane has a certain "charm" and the beer is good. The sarnies served at the bar are excellent and no complaints about the burgers. And you have a car park (small I agree but it is more than we have at New Lodge - I don't include the field at the bottom of the lane). We don't. But other than that, the ground is not Conference standard and if passed.........

then surely questions must be asked of double "standards".
Could be a question of "The Wealdstone" factor....

It's got bugger all to do with my opinion, on my heart or on my [****!!****]. Or yours come to that. It has got everything to do with the criteria set by the league. Nothing else.
Park Lane (subject to terracing work that is nearly complete) meets the requirements of the Conference. The Conference requirements are met. Met are the Conference requirements...
You don't like it but the grading committee do not put messages onto websites saying, "Gazza, mate, what do you think?" Do you see my point?
You cannot tell me a single criteria on which it fails, only those you thing it ought to fail on. Not good enough.
Merv

i think Canvey is a nice ground but at the end of the day it comes down to the quality of the players and coach not the ground and you cant knock us on that !!!!! smile.gif" border="0

Unfortunately you're not quite right Merv. grading criteria can and are applied "unevenly" shall we say. You only have to look around the Ryman premier and see the number of clubs that have wooden stands, bucket seats etc etc to see that these things are never quite cut and dried.
Now, I'm not going to pass comment on Park Lane as we havn't been there yet this season and BTFC vs CIFC is the only thing that could possibly drag me onto the Island, however I sincerely hope that it doesn't become an issue this season.
