Concord Rangers 3-2 Diss Town

Recommended Posts

Concord are through to the next round of the FA Vase after a good performance against Diss Town. Just like the first leg, nothing could seperate the two teams after 90 minutes, 1-1 at the end of normal play. Concord broke the deadlock in the second half when a well worked move was well finished. (Forgive me that I don't know many names as I am a Canvey fan and only watch Concord as a last resort!) Concord piled on the pressure and always looked like getting a second, but it was Diss who scored next against the run of play. A superb shot from about 30 yards was driven past former Purfleet keeper Steve Mead who had no chance. In the last minute of normal time Diss hit the bar after a superb stop from Mead, who denied Diss a certain winner.
In Extra time it was again Concord who controlled the run of play, and this was rewarded by a sperbly finished goal. The Concord player on the corner of the box seemed out of options, until he looped a swerving shot around the Diss Keeper Bond to make it 2-1. Concord made it three when Danny Heale hit a Beckham-style freekick in the top right hand corner from 25 yards, leaving the keeper stranded.
In the second half of extra Diss pulled a goal back as they exposed holes in the Concord defence, a good touch taking the ball over the keeper and defender just inside the box. After this they looked more than likely to pull the tie back to 3-3, the best chance coming 3 minutes from time when an unmarked header was sent narrowly wide. Concord then almost made it 4-1 when Jamie Clarke latched onto a good through ball and was denied a goal by solid goalkeeping.
Altogether a convincing win for Concord, the scoreline perhaps not representing the vast amount of pressure Concord had in the second half of normal time.
