Today's game

Great start from Abbey then the Welsh cheats come down the other end of the pitch and get a penalty,to be fair i thought it was a penalty but i've heard a few people say it was outside of the box,and he did go down like a sack of potatoes. It was the start of many decisions like going in there favour from that idiot of a referee Mr.P.Miller.

I thought we were all other them for most of the game, think of all the chances we had and how many the sheep sh*ggers had..we deserved something.I thought Abbey did quite well today as did Howarth when he came on.Still not sure about Essandoh but he did score a fantastic goal last week.

I don't like Hereford, they cheat, and as for the tw*t that came on the pitch, well "nuff" said really.

See you again next year Hereford.

Good entertaining match (especially first half). Good Performance from Gravesend remember Hereford are full of full time players and look like pushing Chester all the way. The result rather flattered Hereford. Fleet will stay up easily if they carry on playing so well. Things look easier from here on in to me. One point

why bring Wilkerson back when he was struggling to be fit and the other chap has done so well. he dosent look fit to me.

WHat about their free kick which they'd obviously learned from Leicester v Bolton - the bloke stood about three yards offside, then ran back into the wall, then immediately turned and ran back towards goal to slot in the rebound. Surely he was offside by the new term of 'distracting'...?

It certainly was a game of two halves, the second hal;f was diabolical. We never looked in it.At halftime I was excited with more of the same.Sadly my hopes were dashed by poor defensive errors from shearer(unusual)and standing off of men all the time.that is when we weren't taking them out.

As for their forwards, they are a diving digrace.GGGRRR BROWN GGGRRR GUINAN!

Abbey was v.good today, and I thought he was working well off of the head of roy.He was winning almst everything.

But as soon as it started to slip away from us,our heads dropped,we played the long ball game and players gave up the chase.

All in all a bit dissapointing after a cracking first half, but the result severely flattered hereford.

Thought that the score didn't reflect the game today. There is always that gap between the full time sides and the part time sides...not much today, but Hereford just had that tad more pace and organisation, which comes from playing as a full time side. Having said that, I thought that 'fleet matched them well & put in a very good effort and were unlucky to lose 5-2 !

The penalty ? dodgy !! my mates next to me...one of whom was an ex referee, were not impressed !! Think the Hereford player went for it

and the ref fell for it !! Ref was not all that good today !!

Another point....linesmen used to flag for decisions, not wait to see what the ref has awarded and then flag in the appropriate direction !!

..and finally......Ben Abbey.....even "uncle albert" didn't moan about him today...so he must be doing ok ??

Class on grass me ol' china !!

Cheers,

We lost because we were poor in the center half position. Im a big fan of Shearer but i dont think ive seen a center half have such a bad half of football (1st half) for such a long time. He was continually pulled apart and couldnt even kick the ball it seemed. Whether it was a penalty or not Wilko should have got the ball but dithered for too long for the first. We were excellent in the first half going forward, not so hot the second but still a decent team performance apart from the shambolic defending.

Agree Alan W but their guy didn't look too good when he walked off with his shoulder dislocated!

All the other goals were gifted to Hereford thru mistakes. Wilko had an off day today with a couple arguably down to him (the pen & the poor clearance for their 3rd).

An entertaining 1st half and I also thought we still had the beating of Hereford. Apart from a couple of their players they did not look like a team sitting in 2nd place. Thought their defense was poor and we should have buried the chances in the first half. Our second half performance was poor and I think Andy shouldn't have made the half time change as it seemed to upset our entire team play.

Ben did well today and an OK post match inteview on RK. Can't help thinking the OTT celebration (with Walshe's shirt??) played a part in lack of concentration and giving away the immediate reply.

Still, all other results went ok for us. Let's hope the lads can bounce back against FGR.

Should we call in Paul McKenna to hypnotise the team at home games so they think they're playing an away match?? <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I didn't think that there was that much gulf between the two sides, certainly not one that deserved a 3 goal difference! The true difference today was we made more defensive errors and didn't make enough attempts on goal. After they scored their 3rd I thought that we had all of the play until halftime. If Andy Drury had converted the cross and then made it 3-3 we probably wouldn't have become so stretched and may not have been so frail in defence. I thought that Ben took his chances really well. Hopefully it will keep the " I'm not a racist but...." brigade off his back. I also think that Justin deserves a special mention for a very good performance and that Roy showed how good he is at winning the ball in the air. Good luck to the team in our six pointer at FGR next Saturday.

I thought the turning point was Drury's miss from six yards from our best move of the match. That would have made it 3:3 and the match could have gone either way but they went up the other end and got a deflected goal to give them 4:2 and match over.

Hereford probably deserved the win but not by three goals. That was certainly the best I've seen Ben Abbey play and Roy Essendoah looked pretty good in the first half. Shearer and Moore didn't have their best games but maybe some of the credit for that should go to Herefords forwards.

I was surprised that Macca spent the first half on the bench.

Yes Slarti, Drury's miss was key, but I have to say I thought he was stretching a little for the ball and that it was a tough chance.

To be honest, once we were chasing the game there was always a chance that we would leave gaps at the back (particularly when we brought off Gledhill and went for three at the back). I have to say that I thought their penalty was just, although maybe I didn't have the best view, and the Hereford players were certainly keen on gamesmanship (e.g. Purdie's poor attempt to con the referee towards the end of the first half).

An end to end game, with quality finishing from Ben which will hopefully silence the critics once and for all, but unfortunately Hereford's class was the difference (particularly Guinan's excellently taken first goal (Hereford's third)).

Forest Green is undoubtedly a big game next week - we really need to get something from the game, particularly given that we have four very tough games in a row after that (Morecambe, Aldershot, Barnet and Shrewsbury). Let's hope that, what with a supporters' coach running, we will be able to give the lads the vocal support needed as they such for that all-important win.

Hereford's first goal did indeed appear to be OUTSIDE the box.

Their 2nd goal - the blame goes to Wilkerson - most 'keepers would track the ball even if they thought it was going wide but I think Wilkerson reacted too slowly & only when he realised it wasn't so wide did he move. It should have been pushed round the post. Am I the only person concerned that Wilkerson needs to tone up and lose a few pounds?

Hereford's 3rd 4th & 5th goals were all down to bloody awful defending. When will we learn?

As for Hereford's contribution - cheating, diving, fouling.

The ref? Well obviously he has adopted the 'so new nobody else has heard of it' rule of handball not existing. Fouls given the wrong way, assisted by two linesman that were obviously on day release under a care in the community program.

Still - despite the ref we shot ourselves in the foot with the very poor performance at the back. Yet we have the personnel problem up front?

I dont recall even one other shout for a penalty. And what did happen with Guignan's challenge on Wilkerson in the first half? Was it a late challenge (very late, if it was, as Guignan seemed to be a good few yards away from Wilko when he cleared the ball, and indeed, neither lino or ref saw anything, which suggested they were both following the ball forward) or was it simply a case of Wilko's momentum carrying him into Guignan? Guignan seemed to think it rather amusing when the ref was trying to get to the bottom of it and didnt even speak to him.

(My apologies to Mr Guignan, if it was more Wilko's momentum, as I too had followed the ball)
