National Symbols

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help with this general question?

National symbols -

we have animals....

Britain - Lion

England - Bulldog

Wales - Dragon

France - Cockerill

USA - Eagle

Russia - Bear

South Africa - Spring Bocks

Australia - Wallabies

New Zealand - Kiwi [bird not fruit]

there are plants....

England [again] - Rose

Wales - Daffodil or Leak

Scotland - Thistle

Ireland - Shamrock

Can anyone provide anymore "national symbols" or commonly associated symbols for other countries?

I'm scratching my head wanting to know what Poland or Italy might have, for one thing.

Is there a country whose national symbol is something to do with fruit?? [forget New Zealand - I've already done that one for you!]

Thanks.

The Polish symbol is the white eagle.

The German symbol is a black eagle.

The Austrian symbol is also a black eagle.

Whilst the Russian Bear is symbolic in the same way as the British (or English?) Bulldog, the symbol of Russia is the two-headed eagle.

The two-headed eagle is also the symbol of Montenegro.

There seem to be more countries symbolised by an eagle than by any other creature.
