The Run-In

Yes, it does look good for your boys, pre-season I went for Hendon for the title and you to be Bridesmaids yet again, after previous runners up to Gravesend & Aldershot.

I really did expect Kettering who asked to come in Ryman League rather than Dr Martens to have put up more of a challenge to you. (As what they expected the easier option.)

You can re-unite with Gravesend and Shots next season.

Our days of being the bridesmaids are over. After 3 years of being runners up there was noway we were going to mess it up this season. Everything apart from the ground at Canvey is geared towards the conference.

As for Kettering I thought they would be a real threat this season but they will be lucky to make Div2 of he conference. It was really enjoyable when we thrashed them 4-1 at their place and letting them know that this was an easy league for them!!!!!!

I say Merv and Canv!!! I started this idea of counting out our rivals and now you've beaten me to it today.

Just to add my two pennyworth though. The next teams to fall, other than Bedford and St.Albans will be-

Kettering (we thought it would be easy) 86 points

Maidenhead 89

Basingstoke 89

and then we are into the 90's with-

Ford 91

Hayes 92

all assuming that they win all their games from now.

Incidentally, when I arrived on Saturday the song coming over the tannoy said it all I think-

"And another one bites, and another one bites, and another one bites the dust". Perhaps we should have that as our theme song for season 2003/04.

i love a good stats page.. Merv do you think you will be allowed to update the old forum one without er, 'falling down the stairs' or 'slipping on a bar of soap' next time you are at the lane..?

the old fixtures list with its greens yellows and occasionall red, the pie charts, league position and records in chronological and league standing order.. ?

Running the old website was really a team effort between myself, Ian and Matt. None of us was able to make it to 100% of the games but, between us, we managed it for five seasons. Without my two assistants the pressure on me getting to every single game is to enormous. If the stats page misses a game then the whole thing is up the creek. Now that the club no longer gives me any information (they keep it to create their own web pages) it becomes doubly difficult.

Even more difficult next season when travelling to Conference away games will be even more problomatic.

Well checking through the old website(glad to see its still there) I looked at last seasons league table. Hendon finished 3rd with 79 points. We have that amount with 15 games to go!!!

Aldershot finished with 105 points which maybe a record, it would be great to go past that number. I wonder if anyone out there knows what is the most amount of points a team has gained from a 46 game season? I can't recall anyone getting more than 105 points in a season.

Got me banged to rights there Joe White.

Truth is I have been so closely involved over the three 'bridesmaid' seasons that I am simply nervous about even thinking Conference thoughts.

I like to sum up my position as being quietly optimistic. I'll cheer when we win a game and stand in quiet contemplation when we lose, but what I won't do is start celebrating until I know the 106 points are in the bag. Once they are I've arranged to take my Stella intravenously and slowly die of alcohol poisoning, smiile on my lips, propped up on a bar stool at Park Lane.
