Have you seen the Conference "Approved Playing Budget" regulations?

With our attendances we'll be luck if we can field a five-a-side team.

If you average all the Conference teams' average attendances this season you get 1,900, we're short of 600! We're going to have look round for some friends!

The club could lift Matt's ban, that will be one more. Every little helps, after all.

Wage Capping could make us lose some of our star players with the attendances we get at the minute...Unless they're willing to take a pay-cut to play for us.

But your attendances will rise without a doubt. The season we went up (remember???!!), we started in the 500s and were getting 800-900 after that as the Ryman race hotted up. In the Conference, 75% of our gates are over the 1,100 mark. The higher the level, the more people will come, and if you prove as successful as Aldershot this season, your crowds might well outpace ours.

Hopefully with the new ground being so accessible on the island it will appeal to the Non-Southend Glory Hunters/Arm Chair Supporters in Benfleet/Thundersley/Basildon/Hadleigh/Rayleigh/Leigh etc. They would be able to get out of the ground and off the island in less than five minutes with it being at Waterside and not the other end, meaning they don't have to go through the Town Centre anymore!

The budget is based on a clubs turnover in previous seasons and not just on attendances.

Yes it is based on turnover, but I can't see us generating a great deal of turnover aside from the gate and the sponsorship. We'll definately need a good cup run. There are restriction on including any one off capital injections in the budget.

I've been looking at the impact that promotion to the Conference has on attendances, and you can generally expect a 30% increase including the higher away support. Gravesend were a peculiar case, there attendances jumped significantly in the second half of their promotion season, and then increased in the 20% - 30% region in the Conference.

I hope the new ground draws more people, it should certainly extend the catchment area.
