Goalscoring

Recommended Posts

Incredibly, after todays 6 goals, we're now joint seventh in the goalscoring chart in the Conference - which is some achievement given our main problem for much of the season has been the lack of a regular goalscorer.

Todays opponents now have the 6th worst defensive record in the league - only the bottom 5 have conceded more.

I also thought pinnock played very well. I dont think i have seen him run at defenders and take it round them as much as he did today. Also i liked his new haircut!!!

I think if Andy had left Essendoah and Pinnock upfront for the rest of the game i think we would of scored a few more goals!!

Ei, Ei, Ei, oh, off to the coca-cola league we must go.....!

Sorry to say this, but Ben blotted his copybook last week and has blown his chance for a starting place, or even a place on the bench for a while. He will now be behind Pinns, Battersby, Haworth and Onyimni in the pecking order.

Sublime performance from the whole team today, but thought Perkins and Drury looked first class and Pinnock scared them to death.

A big thanks also to Roy for all his efforts during his short stay. Like Protheroe, he won over the fans with quality displays and 110% effort every game.

Have to say Manny and Moussa will frighten defences to death with their pace.

The reason for our upturn in form since the end of November - Ade Pennock being appointed assistant Manager, sheer class.

A quick scour through the club's Jubilee Year Book tells me that our biggest competitive wins are 7-0 v Hastings (1950-51), 8-1 v Merthyr Tydfil (1955-56) and 8-1 v Clacton Town (1962-63). Unless I speed-read it too quickly grin.gif

That was sheer class, but what annoyed me (the pessimist is here), is the fact that we could've had 8 or 9!!! NO, really great performance, Manny Omiyinmi missed a couple but looked brilliant, as did 'Moose' Sidibe. Perkins, Drury's and Pinno's link-up play was sublime, as was Essendoah, Fordy pleeeeeeaaaaaaaasssseeee sign him!!!

Glad to hear an airing of 'Red Army', and even more shocked to hear 'Andy Ford's rednwhite army!!!!'

We were 2-1 down at Bury too, at one point. I remember the 8-2 demolition of Bognor. Bostock got a hat trick, I believe, my dad missing at least 1, with a trip to the toilet. His retiring to the gents & Bostock promptly scoring became so inseperable, that if we needed a goal, he'd duly put the team before self & do what was necessary. The Bognor game was in the Southern League Cup, I believe, and was over 2 legs. We lost the return 3-1. I also seem to remember us hammering Salisbury 6-0(?) when they had a dead ringer for Fidel Castro in goal.

A few seasons later Crawley, complete with Bob Glozier, hammered us at home, by near enough the same margin. Didn't Whitney wallop us at their place by 8 or 9 in the season before we won promotion to the Beazer Homes Premier? & I seem to remember Hednesford(?) sticking about 8 past us in a home game during Eddie McCluskey's time.

Whatever, it's certainly much nicer not being on the receiving end of such scorelines.
