Milton Keynes Clubs

Hi I used to live in Milton Keynes a while back and was wondering if anyone could update me on the MK non-league seen,

First who are the clubs and what are the grounds and attendances like? Also why has no MK team made the step up to Ryman Standard. How will Wimbledon moving change things?

I think the locals clubs are;

Milton Keynes City, New Bradwell, Old Bradwell, Stoney Stratford and Newport Pagnell.

Enfield Town played Stoney Stratford in the Capital Feeder Leagues Cup I think it was. Very welcoming bunch of fans. Their ground was for cricket as well as footie, and the clubhouse was on the far side of the cricket oval from the football pitch, so by the time you'd got there, it was time to come back! They had a nice set up, but I got the impression that they hadn't set their sights too high, because of the multisport set up.

Maybe I can help with 10 years of South Midlands football behind me

Milton Keynes City - Wolverton Park, Old Wolverton Road, MK. tucked in between the railway lines

They were Mercades Benz and worked there way up through the SML, but found they needed a ground with light for the Premier Division so moved into the vacant Wolverton Staduim and changed there name.

The clubhouse is up high on the banking behind the goal, they ground is very run down and has a stand that has seen better day but is listed and cannot be knocked down (it appears they are letting it fall down bit by bit)

SML Prem - Lights - Att 40-50

Abbey National - they play at the Loughton Sport Ground. close to Milton Keynes Station

SML Div 2 - No Lights - Att 20-30

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=...p=newsearch.srf

Ampthill Town - SML Div 1 small club set in Ampthill Park Woburn Road, Woburn Sands, nice a compact is the best way to discribe it.

SML Div 1 - No Lights - Att 20-30

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=...p=newsearch.srf

Mursley United - the ground is in Station Road, Mursley take the A421 between Blechley and Buckingham, nice place just west of MK, turn into village the ground is at the far end on the right as you leave.

SML Div 2 - No Lights - Att 20-30

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=...p=newsearch.srf

New Bradwell St Peter - Bradwell Road, New Bradwell, MK. lovley place, off the A422 north of MK, shared with a cricket pitch and has a Windmill next to the clubhouse. They move up and down between the Premier and Division One

SML Prem - Lights - Att 40-50

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=...p=newsearch.srf

Old Bradwell - Abbey Road, Bradwell Village, Milton Keynes. just off the A 422 to the easy of Milton Keynes

SML Div 2 - No Lights - Att 20-30

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=...p=newsearch.srf

Scot - the ground is in Selbourne Avenue, East of Bletchley off the B4034 at the ned of the road under the disused railway bridge

SML Div 2 - No Lights - Att 20-30

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=...p=newsearch.srf

Stony Stratford - Ostlers Lane, Stony Startford. not a bad place shared with a cricket ground I beleive, have not ben there myself, off the A5(T) east of MK

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=...mapp=newmap.srf

SML Div 1 - Lights but low lux value - Att 30-50

Newport Pagnall - Not in the SML they come under the Dr Martins set-up somewhere I think.

and finally a brief name check

Milton Keynes old Southern League side - Folded

Bletchley old Southern League side moved into Milton Keynes ground later folded

Milton Keynes Bouough SML side played at Milton keynes ground after Bletchley, merged with Wolverton and moved to Wolverton Stadium at MK Wolverton the side later folded

Mercedes Benz took on the Milton Keynes City name and when they needed to moved into Wolverton Stadium to gain higher status

There are two ground in Mk not used now for senior status the old Mercedes ground at Pannier Place and the old Milton Keynes City ground just off the A5(T) near the hockey centre. I beleive this is close to were Wimbledon want to move

None of the ground in MK are up to Rymans Standard and they do not get anywhere near the support required to have a side in the Rymans League.

I have also posted this as a seperate topic on the SMl Forum

Not so sure about attendances, in my experience if a side is doing well in the SML then they can quickly build up good crowds, especially when the opposition is of a high calibre. I have probably been to about 20games in MK (different clubs, different times) when the crowds have risen over the 250 mark, not bad for what is effectively 4/5 divisions below the Conference. And of course we at Enfield can hardly claim to have big crowds these days either, yet we're still there somehow. Also Croydon!

Also grounds in Mk- with the exception of The Park in Wolverton (MK.City),Manor Fields(ex-MK Boro/City/Bletchley etc.),New Bradwell & Stony Stratford, none of the other grounds can be called grounds as such. They are basically parks with a pavillion and in some cases a railing. the criteria for entering the lower levels of the SML is not that excessive.

I don't know if anyone reads this but if they do 2 items...

1. According to this week's local press MK City are considering an audacious bid to take over Wimbledon!

2. The Manor Fields. I haven't been there for about 10 years- Did anyone else see the feature on Anglia News on Milton Keynes's most successful team so far. The reporter walking around a ramshackle ground, it's deteriorated so badly it took me a couple of minutes to work out where it was! A shame, this used to be an excellent venue.

I think its just you and me, and maybe Big Les Dave. Look forward to our trip to Wolverton Park, one of my favorite SSML grounds (might be ramshackled but has fantastic character) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
