SML clubs in MK

Freebird

Recommended Posts

Milton Keynes City - Wolverton Park, Old Wolverton Road, MK. tucked in between the railway lines

They were Mercades Benz and worked there way up through the SML, but found they needed a ground with light for the Premier Division so moved into the vacant Wolverton Staduim and changed there name.

The clubhouse is up high on the banking behind the goal, they ground is very run down and has a stand that has seen better day but is listed and cannot be knocked down (it appears they are letting it fall down bit by bit)

Thanks a million thats just the information I was looking for. esp regarding the attendance. I always remember Wolverton Park as having massive potential but being very run down. It has a large bank on 2 sides though which could be converted to terracing while the main stand side has the railway works as a magnificent backdrop. I really hope MK City get their act together regarding this ground. I agree about New Bradwell st peter too its a lovely ground. Anyway thanks for that info

he only trouble with MK City is they appear to be letting the ground run down, the stand is looking like an old tim shed.

I think its all listed so they are better letting it fall down if they cannot knock it down

They seem to be winging to much about Wimbledon and not getting the other club in MK together and opposion the move

Yes i remember the ground from Wolverton's days as a good club. It was always a great place to watch football. I remember a crowd of over 1500 in a B&B senior cup final there. SHame there letting the oldest stand in the world fall to peices. That club had so much potential but the people of MK let it go to waste, It makes you wonder how wimbledon are gonna survive there

The chairman of Milton Keynes City actually came to one of our meetings when we were discussing setting up AFC Wimbledon (ironically he lives/works in Merton). He was visibly upset about the effect Charles Koppel's Franchise FC will have on his club, almost seemed on the point of saying they can't be bothered to keep going. I sincerely hope they do keep going. I'm sure many people in Milton Keynes won't want to go and watch Koppel's Frankenstein team and may actually make a point of going to non-league games instead.

Very informative Freebird- you know your stuff.Have you been to many games out this way?perhaps you are aware that the stand at Wolverton is supposedly the oldest stand in the world, although it is disputed by another club, possibly Great Yarmouth Town. Most of the other grounds you mention are basic, but of course many of these clubs have only recently joined the SML. The ground used by abbey National was previously used by Shenley & Loughton who were quite well supported (they never played in the top division)
