Hoping to find a cure for Cancer.

Recommended Posts

I am starting this thread as my Dad has been diagnozed with this terrible disease which takes the lifes of 100's year in year out, tomorrow he must have his stomach removed so that they can attach his bowles to his lynphnodes (tubes.) I can remember when I was a young lad in 1981 my Nan being taken by Cancer.

I thought times had moved on, where medical science had moved on, but still people lose their lives to this killer disease.

I will be praying for my Dad for tomorrow's op.

Why can't we as a world find a cure yet for Cancer?

I will be driving him to Whitechappel Hospital London tomorrow.

Thanks Fleet, you would of thought now that we are in 2004 that a cure would of been found

We are not back in the 60's or 70's surely if you were talking 30 years ago, you would of thought that by now we would of been able to cure it.

Do you think it will ever be treatable?

I just can't understand why we are no further ahead on this than back then.

Maybe its just me being a bit bitter.

Well i think there is more than one form of cancer..I'm sure somebody will correct me if i am wrong.....But i agree.........I would have thought that some sort of cure would have been found by now....I'm not sure how much money is spent Trying to find a cure, but know there is a lot of research into the matter.

My sister died of Throat cancer which spread to her stomach 6 yearsd ago.She left her remains to Ottawa Medical University for research, so who knows........one day her death might help somebody else.......We can only Hope!

There are numerous types of cancer, my father died of bowel cancer & my sister of cancer of the blood.

They cure a lot more people nowadays but more people than ever contract this dreadful disease. I believe that the biggest difference between succumbing or surviving this disease is in how quickly it is diagnosed & treated, that's where the lottery depending in which part of the country you live in comes into the equation.

Very best wishes to your dad & all your family.

The Happy family send their prayers and best wishes. Just remember, more and more people are beating this evil disease. My Mum was diagnosed as having breast cancer a few years ago but has now been given the all clear. Mind you, I wish she could have been a bit more tactful in the way in which she told me. Just walked into my office with me surrounded by colleagues. I said "Hi Mum, how are you". She said, "I've got cancer"! Typical of my Mum, she wasn't scared (at least, she didn't show it), was positive and cheerful throughout to chemo and has won through. All I can say is be positive and fight it!

'tis sad indeed and I shall spare a thought for you tomorrow mark and good luck to your dad.....

my old mum is now 82 and has had two cancer operations to her breasts....years of chemo and radio treatment and now she's as fit as a fiddle and still working for the WRVS....

my No 2 here at work has just beaten serious cancer after two ops....he walked around our factories with a chemo drip in his arm as he was recovering and refused to give in.....(scottish would you guess)....

so there is always hope....

keep cool and be strong for your family.....good luck....

Mark - do let us know how your Dad gets on. If only the time and money spent on developing weapons to kill people could be spent on finding cures for such diseases people could have a quality of life, instead of wondering when and where the next fear we have to live with will emerge.

I do hope you will be able to give us some positive news about your Dad.

Thank you all for your kind wishes.

I dropped my Dad off at the Hospital this morning, as my parents are based in Southend and my Mum does not drive, Whitechapel Hospital are kindly letting her stay there for 6 days so she can be at his side, I work in Aldgate so I can get to see him, he will be in for 2-3 weeks but my Mum will return to Southend as soon as he has had his op and is on the way to recovery, we hope.

Thanks again for your support, it is difficult talking about it with family, my mum crys when we talk about it and i don't wish to ask my Dad too much, let him just concentrate on getting better. (Fingers crossed)

Mark.

Mark, best wishes to your Dad and yourself and all your relatives.

There has been no dramatic improvement in the treatment of cancer yet, but the small improvements over many years have added up to a remarkable increase in the recovery rate. Meanwhile, research is continuing in many different cures for the future.

Went to see my Dad, he was told his op would not be today, but tomorrow Thursday,he goes down at 8.30 am, so I will leave Braintree at 6am, to get 6.47 am train to London, so I can sit with my mum tomorrow and occupy her mind.

She is kindly being put up in a room in Whitechappel.

My Dad today, seemed to be alright. My mum was tearful but that is to be expected.

As people had sent PM's to me and asked about my Dad this is the situation as at today. Thanks, Mark.

He is now in the Intensive Care Unit, yesterday his Heart, Lungs, Kidneys packed up on him he had an injection into his neck and he has 9 tubes coming out of his body with a breathing aparotor on his face. I was suppose to be taking mum back to Southend today, but she wants to stay with him until he is back on an ordinary ward.

Hopefully Friday, he will be on ordinary ward, they expect him to be in hospital for another 3 weeks, the op removing the stomach went ok, but he had heavy bleeding yesterday.

Visited him today, he looked bad, but to be expected, my mum looked awful too, she is clearly not getting any sleep. I will go back up and see him tomorrow, work have been good with time off etc. Got back tonight at 7pm.

Mark.
