Player of the season

This is gonna be an interesting one I believe this year. We have only started playing this "unseen" football since the turn of the year and players such as Sidibe and Essandoah cannot surely be considered for player of the season. Therefore we really have to consider the players who have played most of the season since before the turn of the year. In that case my top five (in no order) would be as follows:

Paul Wilkerson

Chris Moore

Andrew Drury

Steve Perkins

Steve McKimm

If I really had to nail it down to a final three it would be 1.Moore, 2.Drury, 3.Perkins (in that order). McKimm did not impress me at all at the begining of the season and Wilkerson is only just shaded into fourth.

I think Macca may have been a bit in awe of his new position as captain initially, not to mention having the stuffing knocked out of him with that long and particularly nasty illness. It was amazing he was back at all. He's now grown into it and to be frank, can't think of anyone else who could have come close to him as skipper. Top man.

Player of the year? Wilko has saved us from some drubbings in the past and it wasn't him between the sticks during our poor start, so.......but then Mooro has been immense, and could probably be our top scorer, so.........but then there's.......oh, decisions, decisions.

There can only be 1 choice really.

He was a new signing during the season, will hopefully be a permanent fixture, he has turned our season around and from what I've seen of him , not put a foot wrong. Just look at the run we have had since he made his first appearance. He's a big lad, looks a handful, admitably loses his head sometimes , but he is a real crowd pleaser, the like of which we have not had before at Stonebridge Road.

1.Chris Moore

2.Andy Drury

3.Ben Walshe

Moore has been fantastic at the back, and it's been noticable that since he came in to the squad the defence has been secure. No doubts about that one.

Andy Drury has been great in midfield, showing us good skill all season long, proving the critics who said that he was useless wrong. I agree that he struggled at the start of the season, but once he found a regular place in the team he gained so much confidence, and showed us what he can really do.

My third place would go to Ben Walshe, as even though he has been out injured, when he played before the injury he wouldn't let anyone or anything stand in his way down the left. Even when he was injured, he still came and supported the rest of the team as well. I saw him on quite a few occasions.

I'm disappointed no-one's mentioned Rob Owen yet - he looked our best player when we were going through our rough spell at the start of the season, and so should be in contention.

Having said that I'd still go for Mooro grin.gif

I totally agree Chris Moore has probabaly been the player of the season. However I think 2nd, 3rd etc. choices are more difficult. Personally I would put Macca 2nd because apart from a few silly bookings has really led by example and shown total commitment throughout the whole season. As for 3rd I think I'd vote for Skins 'cos I think he's added another level of solidity to the defence and has made a really big improvement on the disciplinary side which has made a big difference to his own performance and that of the team.

But I do think the differences between Macca and Skins and other members of the squad are almost negligible and so my choice in no way detracts from the performances of the other players mentioned in this thread.

What I meant was the fact that he travelled down from North London every week to support us, and to be honest, he didn't really have to. Still sticking with top 3 in that order. Might look a bit biased if i put any one else top!!!!!

so........

1.Chris Moore

2.Andy Drury

3.Ben Walshe

p.s. does anyone else think that Ben Walshe will sign for us at the end of the season. I've heard that his contract at QPR is up, and that he doesn't see a future for himself there.

I wouldnt be at all shocked if Rob Owen left at the end of the season. He's been a great servant for the club but he only has one gear in terms of pace and while others have come into the team over the last few months he has been the one to me who has stood out as not being good enough.
