It's your money, Rob. Well it is for now!

Claudio Rainieri

Graham Westley

Tom from the Shop

Jimmy Neighbour

Steve Clark [a bit of an outsider, that one]

Hi Mark.

According to Essex Radio this morning your Chairman is quoted as saying that your new Manager is involved in one of the play off matches tonight and will be announced once his/her current club has completed the campaign. Clearly, he wouldn't want to unsettle those at the club concerned so he has witheld the name.

[i'm pretty sure it said the play off games rather than the Champions League but leave Claudio Rainieri on the list as an outsider.]

So Mark. That narrows the field to 8. It's unlikely to be Colin Hill in view of his brother's experience at The Mighty Saints. We can discount Steve Castle so that leaves 6. The chap from Lewes might find the commuting from the South Coast a bit of a trek in the same way that Graham Roberts struggled to make it from Spain twice each week. That's down to 5.

Kerry Dixon? An ex-pro with a proven track record in management. It fits the pattern, Mark.

According to your web-site, another 4 hour board meeting last night, Mark and another scheduled for tomorrow. Strewth! You wonder what these people find to talk about. Mind you. I'm sure that running a Non League football club is a lot more complicated than many of us realise.

Any luck with the betting odds locally Mark? Also, I'm still keen to hear from you with details of the Graham Roberts Soccer Schools In Spain. The Executive In Charge Of Holidays mentioned it to the sons and heirs and I'm coming under a bit of pressure.

Hi Mark [again].

I've just heard from my source that the long odds outsider upon whom I was going to clear up 'couldn't agree personal terms' or whatever is the expression. You can, therefore , forget Glenn Hoddle, Gordon Strachan, Sven Goran Ericcson, Claudio Ranieri, Graham Westley, Steve Clark and George Borg.

No Mark. Take the Spurs memorabilia down from the clubhouse and dig out some old Chelsea stuff. I feel another double page spread in the NLP coming on. Call me old-fashioned if you wish, but you might like to get a couple of glasses in as the bottles of budweiser seemed to me to send out the wrong message.

No, Mark. It said the Ryman League play off matches.

My remark about Claudio Ranieri was my attempt at humour. Mind you. It wouldn't do to rule anyone out. Your Chairman could just be putting up a little smoke to camouflage his real target. The whole of Non League football would have been most impressed at the travelling expenses of the last incumbent. Huge. Club class from Alicante to be met at the airport by a chauffeur driven limo and a suite at the Braintree Hilton twice a week. Let's hope the next one is, at least, resident in the U.K.

FROM THE NORWICH DAILY ...

Wroxham visit Wisbech amid intense speculation that joint-manager Keith Martin may be moving on to Braintree next season.

The Ryman Premier club have sacked manager Graham Roberts and assistant Clive Gartell after they failed to lift them out of the bottom four.

Martin, whose arrival at Trafford Park resulted in a distinct upturn in the Yachtsmen's form – they have lost only one league game and won the Norfolk Senior Cup – has already admitted that he would have to consider any offer.

He added "I have enjoyed my five months with Wroxham and hope I have made a contribution. But I would have to listen carefully to any approach from a club in a higher league and then make a judgement about my future."

....and all those lovely boats as well!

I cant imagine anyone leaving the glory that is "Roys of Wroxham" behind!

Or should that be "Roy IS Wroxham"?

Hi Mark.

I was disappointed that you couldn't get to Scraley Road last night. Did you watch Chelsea on the box with Mrs Flag?

Garry Hill was there last night. He seemed to find the suggestion of his prior interest in the El Supremo role at Cressing Road mildly amusing. I say mildly as the smile on his lips didn't quite reach his eyes. It was better to change the subject at that point. You know Garry. Or perhaps you don't? He was very popular on the terraces at Clarence Park when he was manager prior to joining the Daggers a few years back. He could tell some stories.

Anyway, Mark. 4 managers down, 4 still involved in the play offs. Any news from the Communications & Media Centre at your place?

I see you have a Presentation Evening tonight. Good luck with that. There is also another "four hour" board meeting taking place this evening, according to your web-site. Crikey! That must be the fifth in the last two weeks. Still. No easy task sifting through the sack-fulls of job applications, no doubt.

I don't remember suggesting Garry was intrested in El Supremo, i think i said he was seen at a Braintree game.

No I was not watching Chelsea, I was trying to score browny points, we have a HUGE tour coming up pre season and as I had plans Sat, Tu, Th, Sat thought i stood more chance if I did not throw a Wed in for good measure.

Hi Mark.

Aaagh. Yes. A tour of the Far East, I see. We were up in that neck of the woods a couple of years ago.

As far as Garry Hill is concerned, I must have misunderstood one of the earlier posts. I thought that we were discussing the appointment of a new manager for The Iron and you, or one of your colleagues, mentioned Garry Hill, I thought, in the context of him having expressed interest in the position. I, certainly, didn't raise it on here or anywhere else.

Garry has a great sense of humour but there are some places where you just don't go. Have no fear, Mark. I didn't mention your name to him last night. There are some situations where absolute discretion is required and that was one of them.

Super guy. I might have a shilling or two on the Urchins getting promotion next season.

Anyway, back to the point. Talking of managers, any news from Cressing Road?

A "four hour board meeting" to start AFTER the huge Presentation Evening, Mark?

Over, above and well beyond the call of duty, I would say Mark. Hugely impressive.

I wonder if they will do that puff of white smoke thing from the flue beside the boardroom when the candidates have been sifted, vetted, interviewed and an appointment made, like they do at the Vatican when a new Pope is appointed. It's a signal to the hushed and expectant crowd waiting patiently below that the quest is over and a new dawn is breaking.

Anyway. I wish you well Mark. I'm not interested in his/her nationality but I hope your people go for someone who is resident in the U.K. to avoid a repetition of previous problems which should remain nameless.

It's a good job that we at The Mighty Saints have our minds on the second play-off game on Saturday, Mark. Otherwise, I would be all of a quiver over the arduous search for a new manager at your place. The biggest names in football. Just imagine!
