Carlisle relegated along with York

Recommended Posts

Many Fleet supporters I've spoken to had already made Carlisle away a must-go-to game, myself included. I mean, you just got to, don't ya!!??! I must admit, though, even if a coach was running for a long weekender I would still be tempted to go by train.....or plane! 8 hours on a coach????? Each way?? Deep vein thrombosis anyone??!!

Currently Easyjet are offering returns to Newcastle from Stansted on a random day on Saturday for £12.98. Just hire a car for the day and Robert is your Mother's brother.

Flying to a game? It's just like being in Europe!

I can feel two long weekends coming up, as I was born and bred 20 miles from Carlisle and have cousins to stay with nearby and also just outside York. Mind you I will have split loyalty with Carlisle as my father and my Grandfather used to take me there as a child and have followed them ever since. I went to a match a few seasons ago when they played Watford, and I had a hell of a job persuading the local constabulary that I wasnt a Watford Fan so I could get in the home end.Even my best Jimmy Nail impression didnt impress them much.

Its officially 337 miles, I think, to Carlisle - not so much farther than our current longest trip of 263 miles.

You obviously don't drive many long distances Alan.

My Sat Nav tells me that it is 338 miles from my house to the graound and will take 5 hours 2 minutes without a break.

BTW according to Confguide our lonest trip is Morecambe (273 miles) not Scarborough <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Well the cheapest filght that I can find to Newcastle is £51.99 with Easyjet, but then you have to get to Stanstead, and then from Newcastle to Carlisle.

With the flight at about 1 hour, having to get there an hour early to check in I'm not sure that there would be much of a time saving at the end of the day.

Still if it is the middle of winter the plane prices may be lower.
