Gravesend boss Andy Ford has signed a new deal at Stonebridge Road as the club moves towards being professional.

Ford, who guided Fleet into the Conference two years years ago, has agreed a contract to become the club's first full-time manager.

"Andy already spends hours over and beyond normal part-time expectations," chief executive Glenn Aitken told the Medway Messenger.

"This is the next stage for both him and the club."

Meanwhile, midfielder Jimmy Jackson has returned to Gravesend following a season with Dagenham and Redbridge.

Fleet plan to go full-time

Gravesend and Northfleet plan to go professional, with the decision to ask boss Andy Ford to manage on a full-time basis the first step in that direction.

Chief executive Glenn Aitken told BBC Radio Kent: "We've got to contemplate a move to going full-time.

"It's not immediately imminent, but Andy's put a lot of time in and this is the first step towards going full-time.

"It's inevitable that as we improve, and we expect to improve, that we enjoy success to take us into the league."
