Full Time

Recommended Posts

Brian Kilcullen has stated in this weeks Reporter that he's looking at 2006/7 before going Full Time and "that may be put back depending on the financial side of things".

"Going full time is a major step, but we wont risk the future of the club" he says.

And "if we are doiung well, crowds should increase, but to go full time, we need to attract crowds of around 2500".

"However, this is not impossible, because the club are in a great catchment area".

He also revealed that the club are still "weigfhing up their options with regard to groundsharing with Gillingham".

That seems a sensible, pragmatic approach. Rushing into going full-time just because a load of other sides are doing it could cause untold financial damage. Besides, being part-time can't be all that bad if we managed to finish mid-table in the season just gone!

Unfortunately, the same can't be said about the Gillingham groundshare plans. I expect we'll know more about this terrible plan once June is over, the deadline for when the Gills have to prove that they are able to build a ground at Temple Marsh.

Going full time is a long way off, if it is ever feasible, so why does the club consistently keep bringing it up?

Because if you don't consider going full time then there can be no ambition to win promotion.

If we don't keep going forward there are plenty of clubs waiting to overtake us.

Whilst going full-time is welcoming, in less than a season, the goalposts have already been moved.

''The season after next" (2005/2006) now becomes "2006/7 before going Full Time and that may be put back depending on the financial side of things".

Personally, I'm wondering if it will happen at all.

"To go full time, we need to attract crowds of around 2500".

Something we've all said on here all along.

"However, this is not impossible, because the club are in a great catchment area".

Maybe now is the time for the Chief Exec to show how he intends to convince the Charlton / Gillingham / armchair Premiership 'supporters' that they should be watching The Fleet?
