This was a response posted on the new forum, to the query re a new forum

 

The reason for having an internal Fleet Forum is following on from the idea that it is actually run by the club, it can be monitored and it can provide up to date feedback. The other forum has less control and we therefore feel that there is an opportunity for genuine fans of the club to be tainted by the minority of unscrupulous individuals.

 

We can therefore provide a site that can be looked at by all members of the family without having reservations on the language being used and unhelpful remarks that may be made.

 

Unfortunately the site will not appeal to all users however we will try our upmost to please as many fans as we can as this is your site.

 

 

I dont ever recall problems with the language used and, as for "unhelpful remarks", there is, I accept, the odd posting from individuals with nothing worthwhile to say, but very few and, given the fact that the board is well moderated, anyone persistently being a nuisance and breaking the rules is stopped from posting.

 

Being cynical, the "official" board will get rid of any messages they disagree with??

 

I agree that we are all used to this board, and should continue to use this one.

I'm really annoyed now. I've registered but registration isn't immediate.

 

Here was my attempted reply:

 

"I'm not quite sure I like that reply. The other forum is perfectly well moderated. If, whoever you are, you had ever bothered to use the other forum then you would be fully aware of that fact. People have been banned when it has been required, threads deleted, etc., so perhaps Mr Aitken (I presume it's you), one should get the facts correct before putting one's foot in it yet again.

 

I haven't a problem with more than one forum but I don't appreciate the above comments being made.

 

Oh I'm sorry - maybe this forum is for censorship & ensuring that you are surrounded by 'yes men'?"

 

Although it hasn't been posted on there, I suppose I won't be allowed on there now.

I'm trying hard to keep an "open mind" on the subject. The new website looks promising and if the "Club controlled forum" is used as a vehicle for better communication to the fans rather than one of "oppression" in terms of fan censorship it can only improve relations.

 

The trouble is there is no longer any link to this forum anymore from the www.gnfc.co.uk site so in the event of censorship - how many fans (apart from current members) are going to be aware of this forum? Maybe this site could be linked to the Fleet Trust website? (I realise there is an existing forum at the Fleet Trust!).

 

If censorship does prevail then as with many other Clubs you may see the emergence of an "un-official" GNFC Website where fans can discuss matters freely.

No Idea was a bit expensive on the printing cost, but a website is that much cheaper, so we might as well!! wink.gif

On this new forum, i have put in all my details as it requests. It then says your information has been sent. But when i try to log in or post a message it say its never heard of me! any one no wht to do???

By the sound of it the "new forum" is going to be run by a control freak, freedom to speak provided youv'e got nothing to say, and before it's even up and running they appear to be suffering from paranoia.

Please can we be assured that this original forum will remain.

They email you (as I discovered when my one from them came through to confirm registration).
