London as F1 venue

Recommended Posts

Last week, Bernie Ecclestone made a tentative suggestion that London could host Formula One racing, the same way as Monaco.

I don't know about everyone else, but this would reactivate my interest in the competition.

If it went ahead, where would the course route be situated? Docklands? City? Or West End?

Anyone suggest a possible route?

With the state of our roads a Motorcross race would be better.

Where would they build things like Grandstands and pits, the idea is a total joke.

I like the idea, but it would never work on logistic grounds !

Most F.1 tracks around the world are totally congested by traffic for three days - during practice, qualifying and the actual race-day.

Therefore, if you want to bring London to a halt completely, (not that it isn't already), hold an F.I there, by all means !

Mind you ! Ken, [color:"red"] (I'm NOT communist), [color:"black"] Livingstone must be rubbing his mitts together in anticipation.

Congestion Charge ?? What congestion charge ??? [color:"black"]

(Would have to be Docklands if anywhere at all !)

as a motor racing enthusiast, i think it would be great for the country.

ecclestone for someone who i think is english, seems to be adicted for some reason to take the major race from the birth place of motor racing in this country.

for a race in future in britian having instead of the casiono square in monaco, having the buckingham palace circle, or the tower bridge straight would improve sponsorship and intrest in the country.

with many new countrys looking to now be part of the formula 1 circus, its important for the country as a whole to contine its role as a major player in the moter racing industry.

I would far sooner a fortune was spent on Brands Hatch. It WAS on the cards a few years ago. I love that circuit. OK - It's small but VERY testing ! Silverstone year in and year out is getting boring !

And it's near to the M.25. (Not sure that's a 'plus' though !)

Theres your venue BJR, the M25, dodge the traffic jams, first one to Dartford Tunnell wins. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

In all seriousness, the whole thing with venues is a joke, the best circuit in the world, long straights, high Speed at Spa Francachompe / Belgium was not allowed in last year because they have tobacco advertizing. Pathetic. Pleased to see Spa is back on the circuit.

It will never happen at Brands Hatch again.....Too many tree huggers complaining about noise and inconvenience..As a Deputy Chief Marshal of a Motorcycle Racing Club, i know the problems only too well...we had to finish racing by 5'o clock........The old track is far too tight and run off areas to small for modern F1 cars. There was a move to change the layout of the circuit so the Grand Prix track would go down towards Farnigham Roundabout instead towards West Kingsdown as it is now, but the cost and loss of the character of the track put those plans back into the Rubbish Bin where they belonged!
As for England being the home of Grand Prix........the first Grand Prix was held in France!
