With the conference finally now getting two up to the Football league next year, hopefully the conference will now dangle an extra promotion place to the three feeder leagues below.

How about playoffs between the 3 teams that finish 2nd in the feeder leagues , and the team that finishes 4th from bottom in the conference.

It will have the benefit, of keeping the feeder leagues more interesting right up to the final games and it also rewards teams who have had a good season but just missed out on automatic promotion , with some potential money spinning games, even if they don't win the eventual play offs.

The only losers are the 4th from bottom Conference team, but if they are good enough they will stay up, and if they are not, they will at least have more of a chance of getting back up again the following season.

If you were looking beyond non league for a solution, then this is the best alternative.

Div 3 and Conference regionalise to Division 3 North and South.

The Feeder Leagues align below div 3 with a feeder each with 2 up 2 down in place.

Div 2 teams are in trouble, but they are fully pro and would want to retain that status.

In terms of our league it's a shame Turvey is just not doing it for the teams who need to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

It seems that Mr Turvey has concerns that the Ryman clubs would be treated harshly if three feeder leagues was converted into two (i.e. the new Southern league could contain more Doc Martens teams than Ryman ones - after all, the Ryman league has historically been seen as the weaker and more laughable of the three feeder leagues).

But yes, more promotion places should be made available in order to increase excitement and give more teams seasons where they actually have something to play for in the last three months or so. <img border="0" title="" alt="[smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

How about this

Div 3 North and South - made of current div 3 and Conference

Three up and Three Down between

Conference North and South - made of team from Northern League, Southern League and Rymans League

Bottom three down and Champions Up between

Northern League - made up of current teams in Northern League

Midlands League - made up of current teams in Southern League

Southern League - made up of current teams in south of Southern League and Rymans League

Each of these three having a Premier Division and then regional leagues below that.

Northern East and West

Midland East and West

Southern South East and South West

These leagues can have as many league and teams in them as required to run a reasonable league seasn (between 20-22 teams) maybe two or three divisions

Below this organize the Counties in forming their own league at a higher standard than they already are. They can have as many leagues as required at Senior, Intermediate and Junior Level.

All Counties are of a size were travelling would be local, moving up to the regional league would them give them further to travel but still within there budget range

They can then move up further if they are in a position to be able to afford it.

Teams would move into the Regional Leagues on having a ground grading suitable

Yep Freebird many of us have been saying for decades a properly structured pyramid would be desirable. However its difficult to see how we go about killing off the multitude of leagues and harder still all the league secretaries and administrators, they enjoy their positions and relative power, so they won't be voting for a new system. instead will be as obstructive as possible unless they think they'll land a plum position in the new order.

Freebird,

Couldn't agree more with your suggestion which sounds a bit like utopia for Non-League Football. Your theory is based on logic and common sense, facilities which the powers that be always seem unable to understand. Iron knob is correct in his assertion that the power crazed minions within the current set up would present a major problem to any changes.
