Rant time

So Bob Crowe is gonna bugger up my day next Thursday. Talk about 70's T Rex. They are getting a similar pay rise to the rest of us for spending 8hrs a day being total ar*seholes and they wanna strike.

Now black youngsters in London today, why do they all speak with this sort of cross between Afro Carrebean and Ali G type accent. When I was at School the black kids that were born in this country spoke with a cockney type accent. Now the current kids who have also been born in this country and are a generation on have gone back to a more ethnic accent, Why? What is more concerning is that white kids are speaking like it to. What has happend to the Cockney accent?

What do you reckon on all this Cross of St George stuff everywhere for Euro 2004. I think we have as much right to fly our flag as anyone else but unfortunatley it always depicts to me English football yobos, p&ssed up in silly shorts and sunburnt torsos fighting the foreigners on the continent. I saw a tee shirt on sale in Makros the other day entitled "Lads Army Invasion of Portugal" with a map of Portugal on the front highlighting all the venues. The tone of it just encourged hooliganism as far as I was concerned.

This yoobo thing brings me on to another thing that anoys me. Women that smoke, have tatoos and say F*ck. Have they no self respect for their womanhood. Why do more a more women think it is cool to be like this. They seem hell bent on getting themselves a "slapper" tag.

Don't get me wrong, I like horny women, seductivley dressed, whith plenty of charecter, but come girls, do it with a bit of class.

Class that is just it, our society these days in the UK is totally lacking class and quality. Whatever happened to the heroes??????

Strikers - can't really see that it's justified.

Accents - totally agree, especially concerning white kids. That's what Ali G (who I don't like) was taking the p1ss out of. Funny how we used to get told off for "speaking badly" but everyone else had an accent! Anyway, I also hate those soppy hoody things they wear. Not cool at all, but it speaks volumes about the wearer!

The cross of St George is the national flag of England and I am glad to see the carnival atmosphere that is beginning for the tournament. If more people do it the more we reclaim it from the yobs and fascists. Is Makros a Greek island?

Women - I like a woman to be equal in all ways and have no more objection to them swearing - in moderation and context - than I do a man. This does not mean every other word of course. I don't like smoking in anyone, male or female, but if someone does it's their choice, and provided they respect my distaste for the vile pungent stink, we're all happy. I would not make a gender judgement on who can and can't smoke, that would be sexist and wrong.

I dislike chewing almost as much as smoking, frankly. Especially if the mastication is perfomed with the mouth open. Yuk.

Tattoos are a matter of taste, personally I generally find them a bit naff, but they can be quite fetching. Overdone now though.

Slapper tags - well I suppose they will want to flaunt their good points!

Seductive, horny women with character - yep!

One of the problems with St. Georges Day is that it invariable falls at an awkward time when everyone is celebrating Easter and with all the other bank holidays around this time there is no way the government would sanction a national holiday then. Shame though although I bet that scumbag Livingstone would do his best to ignore it even if it was a holiday.

On the whole, people want more annual holiday rather than more public holidays. This makes more sense, as people then choose whether to celebrate a particular day or not. For instance, I always take a day off when by daughter has her birthday, but I never suggest that it should be a German public holiday.

we should have a day off for trafalgar day.. mainly to fk the frogs off.. i mean in the old days when we duffed the frogs up we used to build a whole square to celebrate with fountains n everything or we used to knock up a huge station just to rub it in..

Britain/England has less public holidays than anyone else in Europe apparently. If I could choose 5 extra Public Holidays they would be....

St George's Day

Battle of Britain Day 15th September

John Lennon's birthday 9th October

A "Lost Weekend": a Summer Holiday comprising of a Friday and Monday sometime during the first half of July. In effect, a long weekend where the smell of BBQ's fill the air and cheap lager flows freely. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Something else....at sporting events

1) Scotland have their own anthem

2) Wales have their own anthem

3) Ireland (ok they're not part of UK) have their own anthem.....

But we still must use "God Save The Queen" at sporting events...

I want "Land of Hope and Glory"....

But Britain/England move public holidays which fall on a Saturday or a Sunday to the next working day, which other countries do not. So this year, for instance, North Germany has fewer public holidays than Britain/England. So let us take an average. North Germany has Good Friday, Easter Monday, Ascension Day and Whit Monday, which always fall on weekdays. They also have New Year's Day, May Day, Day of German Unity, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, which can all fall at weekends, so are only a day off on average five years out of seven. So North Germany has 4 plus 5 times 5/7 = 7 4/7 public holidays in an average year.

This year, the Day of German Unity and Boxing Day are Sundays, and Christmas Day is a Saturday. Next year, New Year's Day and Christmas Day are Sundays.

Sorry to disagree with you but God Save the Queen is a fantastic anthem. Seeing the England rugby players singing it at the World Cup was amazing.

Sorry to disagree again, but I think that NKAFD's point was that the dirge about the queen serves as the anthem for the whoe of the UK. When the other Home Nations play they have their own tune, but we tend to stick the afore mentioned dirge.

There are some sports or events where we use Land of H and G, I think it tends to be where the home nations are competoing against each other like at the Commonwelath Games.

I object to the use of GSTQ as the national anthem, whether for England of the UK, as it is a song of praise for a individual, a monarch, and not about the country at all. (I do like the bit about quelling rebellious Scots though). Secondly it is such a mind numbingly boring pedestrian dirge.
