All our yesterdays

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of having a tidy up in readiness of an office move and came across an old programe( price 30p) for the 85/86 season. Flicking through it contains a rant from the then secretary Daryl Lucas (remember him) who amongst other things bemoans our previous home gate of only 397. It just shows how far the club has come since those days.

The team, for those old enough to remember those days, for the game (against Bedford) was:

Colin Lewington

Mark Penfold

Ray Tumbridge

Paul Yates

Colin Dalton

Gary Hewitt

Andy Blondrage

Steve Luckett

Paul Kenny

John Palmer

Martin Coates

For some reason Leroy Bess was not playing.

A few good players, but again not a patch on todays team. We were 14th at the time with Welling top of the then Southern League Premier. Eddie Presland was the manager.

Actually looking at the programme there was probably a bit more reading in it than the current offering!

Well, you say that, but it appears good times are on the horizon. According to the news page, Paul Harrison will be our programme editor next season, which means there will be someone to concentrate on the programme instead of it being compiled by those who have to do the best they can to juggle it with their other responsibilities within the club.
