Gravesend

YELLOW

Recommended Posts

Well not the greatest of performances but we got a point after a scrappy display. Gravesend dominated the first half. They were quicker to the ball, stronger in the tackle and we had no creative ideas and created very little.

That man Essandoh scored against us once again!!

Second half was much better. We needed a lucky break when Greggors challenged the keeper, got to the loose ball and the ball fell kindly for Boylan who squeezed the ball home.

After that we were probably the better side but Gravesend defended superbly and a couple of last ditch challenges denied us, most notably Boylan and Greggors. Ben Sedgemore looked to have won the game when he burst through in the final seconds but the keeper managed to get a faint touch on his goalbound shot.

A reasonable point but a lot of work to do. Duffers was awful tonight and I think it's time for Jonny Keeling to be given his chance.

Ben Sedgemore was superb and Mints showed his influence as the game wore on.

A bit perplexed by the crowd figure. Seemed like 1700-1800 there but the official figure was 1,223. Seemed about 400 Gravesend there.

I really enjoyed the game tonight. It was a hard fought game and a draw was probably the right result.

I thought in the first 30 minutes we were terrible and deserved to be more than 1-0 down. The second half we stepped up a gear and dominated the game.

It didnt help with the ref and linesmen they were terrible and the Gravesend player was very unlucky to be sent off. You would think the refs would warn the player not book him again to send him off. Looks like we are going to have to put up with these refs.

Dont know why there was so many police tonight there has never been a history of troubl between the two teams.

I couldn't get to the game at the last f**king minute!!! I feel gutted now at missing it, I listened to it via Radio Kent, (Essex were covering Dag & Red at FGR mostly) and we sounded all over them in the last 15 minutes.

Obviously only hearing the game and not seeing it, I'm not one to judge the disallowed goal. In view of both halves from a semi-biased commentary, (they just couldn't help but refer to the floodlights every 10 minutes or so) I'd have to say it was a balanced game and the score would probably suit both teams. Obviously Canvey fans will probably remember only the second half and undoubtedly some are probably still in the bar.

I think we've dropped down to about 15th now on goals scored.

I've definately got to try and get to the Tamworth game on Saturday now!!!

Get used to the refereeing - too often its heavy handed and common sense isnt used. We've now had players sent off for 2 yellow cards in both our first 2 games - certainly, the Saturday one was plain silly - the first booking warranted no more than a good talking to and the second should have been a penalty, rather than a dive.

It sounds as though, had the ref applied common sense tonight, the second booking should have been no more than a strong warning, although the player brought the red card on himself by arguing for the first yellow card (I wasnt there, but this came from the Radio commentary,so apologies if my facts are slightly out)

As for the policing, its also been a regular comment at our ground that policing is over the top, although odd occasions show why its needed.

Sort of, it was more the case of lack of money than work - obviously no work, no money so it's a bit of both.

Us poor Students eh?

Should have won it at the end but it wasn`t to be. I don`t enjoy the way Gravesend play but it gets them results and maybe we will have to play that way on occasions this season.

Hope the rest of the Conference refs aren`t the same as Mr Deadman, don`t think he had an option with the sending off but he was fussy and never let the game flow. I see last season his record was 9 games 34 yellows and 2 reds, he`s already off and running this season.

cant argue with that.. it would have been nice to nick it at the death but the fleet must feel they were worth the points after thier first half display.. it was like watching purfleet on steroids at times what with all that annoyingly organised defending.. and what has andy ford got going with his man from c and a/ prada look.. this is the conf we want trackys and lard from the managers

When we came up to the conference two years ago we thought the standard of refereeing would be bettere than the Ryman - sadly not the case.

As you saw last night some refs will give yellows for the sort of minor foul that got our bloke sent off. And when your player (Gregory i think it was) spat his dummy out and had a little kick out at our bloke, I've seen refs give that as a straight red. The refs rarely seem to make use of their linesemen in 50:50 decisions and so the linesmen tend not to get involved.

It's frustrating for the players and it's frustrating for us fans.

I know you won`t agree but after getting himself booked for dissent Rouse has only himself to blame for making that rash tackle. I do agree that Greggers was lucky, i`m sure the ref was itching to add to his tally but somehow resisted.

am i the only person who remembers just how terrible canvey were for the 1st 3/4 of the game last night. we drew level from a goal that was one of the most blatant fouls i have ever seen (im not complaining im sure we will have decisions go against us soon). every time we got the ball we just hit it and hoped. it wasn't until the last 5 minutes of the 1st half and about 5 minutes before the sending off that we started playing properly, we started holding the ball and thinking of the passes. the kind of football we are used to watching, and it worked we ripped gravesend apart. we have to stop getting sucked into the scrappy way other teams play, because they are better at it than we are.

as far as the sending off goes, the bloke done two stupid fouls that were worthy of yellow cards, even their management were calling him a twat.

the 2nd gravesend gaol was offside, the funny thing is he so didnt need to be, he could have scored just fine without straying off side. he was being called some names from the away dug out.

when we did play though we looked great and gravesend could have had 12 men on the pitch and we would have taken them apart. gravesend owe the draw to their defense (oh and the ref of course)

Actually I do agree, but surely the ref can show some common sense, after all it was his first real foul of the match and all that Mr Deadman had to do was have a quiet word and tell him the next time he would be off.

This was not a dirty game but we ended up with 7 or 8 cards between us. Ridiculous.
