Rant Time!!

Right pin back your ears because this is going to get ugly!!

The ref today was shocking, a complete disgrace. He had no control of the game whatsoever, gave needless free kicks and booked people for minor offences. Quite frankly he was pathetic and should never be allowed to ref at this level again. It really pisses me off at the standard of refs at this level. Games are won and lost on performances like this and that was poor!!! This ref should not be allowed to ref another Canvey game again!!!

On the game itself we played OK but credit to Barnet, they looked a good side and their 350-400 fans made a load of noise!

First half they were probably the better team. Danny Potter had already had to make a low save before Dean Sinclair scored with an angled shot from the right. Barnet then proceeded to miss a couple of sitters before we finally woke up.

Greggors volleyed an effort over and then saw his shot brilliantly turned over by the keeper. He then had two far post headers go wide as we finished the half strongly.

Second half was about even as we struggled to break down the Barnet defence. Danny made a brilliant reflex save but it was only in the last 10 minutes that we began to create a few chances.

Greggors volleyed a brilliant effort just over and then Ben Sedgemore had a looping header turned away. Barnet defended a bit desperately in the last few minutes but we couldn't quite find the opening.

In the end Barnet deserved their win. They were well organised and attacked well on the break. A couple of our players especially Matt Joseph and Ben Sedgemore were just not at the races today although Dave McGhee was outstanding and Duffers had a decent game.

Crowd of 1,230 was our highest of the season.

Shame the ref decided to his best impression of Kermit the Frog!!

YA. Sorry disagree!! Duffy had another crap game, I also thought Sedgemore was good apart from a short spell when he just didn't function.

When he is fit we need to get Dobbo in there to kick a few arses, because I think we are lacking a bit of muscle in the middle. I thoughjt we were too indecisive on the ball and then getting it nicked off us.

Boylan did not get the service he needs and deserves, we really should change out tactics during a game! otherwise why have a mid field??

I thought it a bit naive to play exactly the same team as Saturday, a long journey, hard game, only a day between and we have a large squad, my own reasoning cannot figure that one out. We have Dom Sterling and Wardy back but did not even figure on the bench! are they injured or something?

Could not agree more about the referee, where the heck are they finding these so called officials? have they been briefed to let opposition players hack our players to bits and not blow for fouls against us or what.

A very frustrating game indeed, I do realise that we are going to lose games but lets at least do it right at home!!

Now you know how we've felt for the last few seasons.....

.....the refs, in general, are shocking. Deadman, who officiated our game against you lot, is one of the worst! Having said that, we now seem to have adapted to them and let the football do the talking (5-1 win today).

Right..... back to making the trains run late.

No complaints about the defeat today. Barnet were the better side and I htink they will be right up there at the end of the season.

The referee was terrible today and lost control of the game. He only looked about 20 and seemed to be out of his depth.

We can take todays game as a learning experience. We do need to get more organized against teams like Barnet. We gve the ball away far too much today.

We can still hold our own in this Division though and at least our next few games dont look so difficult.

Another thing as well, where was the noise from our fans? It was like a morgue today! 300/400 Barnet fans made a load of noise for the entire 90 minutes but at times you could hear a pin drop amongst the Canvey fans.

I'm not having a go at the regulars who try their hardest (you know who you are) but today at times I was standing with people who were offering no encouragement to the players and at times were slagging them off. Quite frankly they seemed disinterested.

I doubt this applies to any who read this forum but it really pisses me off!! I'm not saying you should sing or anything like that but at least give the players a bit of encouragement sometimes rather than standing there like you couldn't give a [****!!****]!!!

Sorry but what's the point in having crowds of over a 1000 if there is going to be no bloody atmosphere!!

it has to said that we did warn you at the start of the season most refs favour the established, ex -league sides.
Now in our third year, we are still regarded as "outsiders" to the league.
You will adapt.
Best of luck from us at the Fleet.

Been on holiday for the past two weeks so this was my first conf match today. Cannot make comparisons with other performances so far, but brief observations on today were:

Seen worse refs. The linesmen were appalling as usual.

Believe we had our first shot after 30 minutes! Barnet should have been 3 up at half time.

Better second half but the only real action came in the last 10 minutes or so.

To me, Sedgemore done okay, along with Potter, McGhee, Greggors and Chenners.

JK seemed to have a hard time today. Along with Buzz, at this level you need to move the ball quickly and can’t dwell on the ball. That second touch to get the ball under is too much and players are in at you in an instant. With the subs to come on, you felt that things weren’t going to change too much. Wonder where Keeling was as he could have altered things.

In all, watching Barnet play reminded me of Aldershot the season before last at our place. They gave you no time and kept our chances down to a minimum. Those qualities certainly featured well for Aldershot in the Conf last season.

We have had a decent start but whether we need to change our game slightly to adapt to this level. We had more time on the ball in the Ryman, but this is a different kettle. There is also the difficulty in playing against full time teams week in week out as well.

As for the next few games not looking so difficult, don’t agree with that comment. Scarborough away, Farnborough who won 2-1 against Exeter today. Seems like they must have had another team out there Saturday against Carlisle and their true team played today. I remember last season when we beat them 6-0 in the Trophy then they beat Aldershot 3-0 or something the following match. Then Halifax and Crawley at home. Sorry but there’s no let up in the fixtures list and each game will be a battle.

Looking at all those names on the back of the programme, I agree that with 26 names listed we should use more of the squad when there are games just two days apart.

mcghee had an good second half.. chenners did well.. i thought greggors put himself about nicly and didnt give up.. the spell after their goal should have seen them sew things up.. but we did ok and could have nicked a point at the end.. you can critise a few of the players if you want but i think it was more a case of barnet being just well.. good..

Problem we've had in every game this season is that our build up play is too slow, we seem to be permanently outnumbered.

I thought we played OK at Exeter and against Barnet, but I'm starting to get a little worried.

I have to disagree with YA about Duffers, he's been poor and looks very low on Confidence, and Greggors looks way off the pace for this level and its affecting Boylans game as he can't run the line on his own. Also a little dissapointed in JK, he doesn't seem quite there yet this season but I'm sure his class will show through soon. Finally, I thought the defence looked better when Cowan came on, McGhee looked much more comfortable on the right and we finally had a defender winning the ball in the air.

Cant agree with you about Greggors, fat boy. I really think his game has improved from last year he looks much sharper & fitter. We're gonna need his experience and leadership as the season goes on cos this league aint gonna get any easier!!

Ok we lost but we lost to a team who are early leaders of the Conference and will no doubt be up near the top at the end of the season. If Barnet had taken their chance just after the goal the game could well have been over in the first half but they didn`t and over the whole game i think we had a lot more chances than them but didn`t take advantage and that`s the way it goes sometimes.

Their manager knows our team inside out through his job as manager of the England nonleague team and he used that knowledge well. You could tell by the reaction after the game of him and his squad that they were more than pleased to beat us and that shows the respect we have gained in the last few seasons.

Nobody likes losing and i hope it never becomes a regular thing but we are not going to win every game we play, this league is too good.
