PETTY RULES OR COMMON SENSE?

Recommended Posts

I tried to stand in front of the stand on Sat (my preferred position since segrgation when kicking to the Swanscombe End) but was told to move away or sit down by a sterward.

When I asked why he said something like "We've had complaints...its health and safety....by those sitting behind...fire exit escape route...disabled only now...got to keep it clear"

Not a great explanation as he followed it up with "Not really sure why...all I know is we have been told to enforce it" and with a shrug of the shoulders he was gone.

Does anyone know the reason why after 50 odd years this new rule has been brought in? Is it an attempt to keep people away from the dug out area or is there are real rather than "Its what we have to do" reason?

Incidently I noticed we now have a full set of yellow bibs including two for the police called Match Commander and Ground Commmander as well was the usual official programme seller, steward etc.

Anyone seen any other variations ie 2nd hot dog chef etc.

Final observation 3 bar staff ain't enough although I understand one did not show up on the day.

That rule has been in existence since the first home game, something to do with the exit route from the stand needing to be clear and their needing to be specific space for disabled supporters.

I know a few people who used to stand there, they just stand somewhere else now. It's not as if you are struggling to get a view...

Well apparently some poor sole fell and cracked his head open in the area that I think you are referring to last home game. The linesman started flagging to a steward and looking over the wall. Next minute there was police, stewards and all sorts in there (an ambulance turned up as well later)! I could not see what actually happen as I was behind the goal (it was at the way supporters end of the seating stand), and I watching the game at the time <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />, but I got the news from someone who was round there at the time!

...yes I saw the incident re someone falling that happened in the second half but I was moved on in the first so I don't think it is connected.

As for standing elsewhere I know there is plenty of room now but it is getting that you cant stand close to where we are kicking anymore for half the game.

I find the blocking of an escape route arguement pretty slim. It seems just another petty rule to me and the elves.

Sorry Daz, must disagree.

I don't much like the idea of segregation but the one thing we lose without it is atmosphere.

The second half against Northwich was a bit flat as a lot of fans (me included) moved to the Swanscombe end.

Against York, the support from the covered end was excellent.

Bring on Westley Boro
