The part about fighting was optional in case people had to fight against Relatives in their old Country.............I wish you would check your facts before posting, it has nothing to do with Allegiance!

How can it not have anything to do with allegiance? Realistically, if a person swears allegiance to a new country, it means fighting for that country, with the risk of having to fight against relatives of the birth country. I am not trying to be sadistic here, I am only saying that swearing total allegiance to America would involve that risk. By taking out that clause, there isn't total allegiance.

I'd far sooner be a member of the NEXT State of the U.S.A. than have to join the snail-eaters, spaghetti bashers, cod nickers and money hoarders !

That lot add a whole new dimension to the word CORRUPTION !!

Obviously...and Thank God they don't........The Government don't see it the same way as you!.......Oh dear i mentioned God!

Nope, the American government sees it as we need to rush in and fight the battle for every other country. I have no problem with helping others out. I think it is wonderful. But when there are millions in America who need financial help.. hell, countless thousands need a home to live in and food to eat.. but can't get the help they deserve, while America's government is pouring billions into helping other countries.. Am I the only one who sees what is wrong with that? This is WAY off the original point I was trying to make. I am only saying, as a lifelong citizen I have problems with the way the government runs. Why should my husband have to embrace that sort of insanity simply to be with me? He will always feel loyalty to England and that is fine with me.

It was hardly an excuse.. I am only saying it shouldn't matter to anyone but him and me if his heart belongs to England or America. We are together because we love each other, not because of which of the two countries we choose to live in.

This all started because he said he wasn't going to sing the American Anthem. Does that mean those of us who were born here but don't sing it should get out?

My point is..........If a Country is magnanimous enough to accept you, then you should do your part to support that Country, sing their anthem, which if you become a Citizen is YOUR Anthem.

A lot of the problems are caused by people who want the benefits but are not ready to do their bit.

You may not agree with your government, but you should still get behind your Country. I didn't agree with the invasion of Iraq, but i am 100% behind the troops that are fighting there!

I am married to an American woman, if we had decided to live in England i would have expected her to join in the British National Anthem and embrace British way of life!

People who don't integrate cause a lot of resentment amongst people who are born in that Country!

This has gone on long enough, lets just leave it be!

Some people think i hate then because i have different opinions than they do.........I don't hate anyone on here!

That is unacceptable. We are going around in circles here, agruing the same points over and over again. I will go to America, I will be with my American wife, but again, there is no way that I will stand up whenever the American anthem is played and sing it. I will not do that because my country is England. It will always be England. I was born in England, I have lived in England all my life. I am English, therefore I am.

I never said anything against my government; I actually think they're doing a good job. Then you say you should get behind 'your' country. I am behind my country, which leads to my original point!

If you don't stand up for the American Anthem you are just showing your ignorance.

Actually, I am showing my patriotism to MY country. I will always be English. How many more times do I have to mention this before you realise! For the final time, I am English (in case that has bypassed you), I will always be English. So from all the 'points' above, I should denounce my country, my country's anthem, and my country's flag.

You show me one person that will willingly do that, and I'll platt piss.

The original point of this topic was the fact that Amir Khan chose to defend a flag that isn't his own country. He was BORN in England; his father moved here in the 70s. I will willingly fly the flag of England outside my home in America, and being born in England, that is my right do do so. Nobody tells me what country I should show allegiance to.

Yeah, I respect America, and the people I have met there respect my country too. They don't care about why I am patriotic. They care that I am patriotic.

[color:"red"] When in Rome............. [color:"black"] Springs to mind.

That's why I have no sympathy at all for any Westerner's that travel to Eastern Countries, try to smuggle drugs, then bleat like hell about 'Human Rights' when they get sentenced to Death !!

They knew the penalties when they attempted it, and should accept their fate !

Come to think of it, the death sentence here for dealing in class 'A' drugs wouldn't be such a bad idea !!
