Todays Game..

Quite a good summary, Andy.

Mitts IS a fine keeper, who happened to have a crap game. Good god, even Banks, Shilton,Clemence, Schmeichel and Seaman had the odd poor game. I think that is the first time he has failed the club. good keepers don't turn bad overnight. They lose confidence. Mitts kept superbly last year at the end of the season and kept Wilko on the bench on merit.

The problems are if a keeper has a poor game, you lose and blame him. if a striker has a poor game, you still lose and blame the defence.

Can't win.

Having said that, Mitts confidence must be shattered, so a recall for Wilko can be expected.

Sorry Andy Y have to disagree that there is plenty to choose between Wilko and Mitten, Wilko is a better shot stopper, a better cross taker, more physical and verbal presence and will claim crosses that Mitten wouldnt even attempt to get through. Apart from kicking Wilko is a far superior keeper, Mitten is an excellent second choice but no more than that if Wilko were ever injured or worse left god forbid I would not be happy with Mitten as a first choice. I have to say I never rated him when he was with Margate, Dover, Gills etc but thought he did play well during last 5 games of last season. But he had a shocker on Saturday !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah James! (But not as the girlies say it in the Bond movies!) Its all a matter of opinion.

Don't get me wrong I like Wilko, and rate him very highly indeed. Its intresting to note that he has obviously lost a fair bit of weight during the close season, so he obviously rates Mittton as a serious challenger. I would argue that sometimes his liking to take crosses that Mitton wouldn't normally go for has let him down. (Canvey this season, for example, the fact he was fouled aside.)

I would also say that haveing a vocal keeper isn't always an advantage. Schmichael may have been the best keeper for several years, but Seaman, has been by far the best England keeper for decades and he never shouted when it wasn't neccessary.

Mitton just appears to be a lot calmer than Wilko, in my view anyway. That said, I didnt see the game on Saturday, and he may have had a shocker! But Wilko has made the odd rickett this year as well!

Sell 'em both and bring back Glen Turner I say!
