Braintree Game

What was that in the second half today? We went flat as a pancake – could/would someone please explain the substitutions to me!! If anyone was to go off it should have been Chenners who for me had a mare today. Pity we lost two points with Aldershot StAlbans and Billericay all losing we could have made up some real ground on the leaders. The second half was perhaps the worst performance I have seen this season, the story of a goal just before the break certainly worked for Braintree didn’t it!!

i hate playing braintree and purfleet..they are without doubt the two most boring teams in the universe... great defence, really well organised etc blah etc..which is all part of football but when they take forever to take a throw in or goal kick its sends me into a coma.. whenever it went out for a throw to them i could feel the life being sucked out of me..

Thank god for Danny Potter he has to be MoM,without him today we would have lost by at least 2 goals.

I have to agree with Vic I just couldnt understand the substitutions,we spent all the game pumping the ball 30 feet in the air and then take greggors off the only only forward with any height up against a defence all over 6 feet.

Why didnt protheroe play from the start ? at least he made a difference when he came on, I have yet to see Matt Jones make any contribution to the team when he has played.

Like many others I thought we had cracked it and we were on our way to the top, after todays display I have my doubts.

I too was quite disappointed with both our fullbacks today. Protheroe should have started at right-back with Cheners on the left. Crow was with these boys last yeat so they know he's got no pace and they played on him all afternoon!

They are the first tactical substitutions I've seen the club make...ever and I take it back, please don't try them again!!! The only one I sort of agreed on was the removal of Scott Forbes. Can't wait for Spencer Knight to return.

Ross Johnson was solid today as was Wardy. Boylan ran his heart out as usual, but Brayley was disappointing for the third game running. I feel he contributed nothing but the odd bit selfishness today.

Potter & Protheroe were my MotM's by a long way.

Something I left out of my report was the severe look of un-happiness on Scott Forbes today. Taking his shirt off before leaving the field, making straight for the changing room etc.

Crow had a good game against Ford on Tuesday, I like him in the team he is solid and his lack of pace is made up by his distribution. Forbes always works his socks off, his contribution to the game far exceeds that of Matt Jones who for me always looks pretty static with only the occasional flash of his ability. Breyley has enormous skills but does tend to be naïve tactically; his greed is not always a bad point. Lee Protheroe looked pretty solid and worked well but I do not think Ross Johnson should have been benched. I still think that Chenners has not had a good start to the season, his head seems to be elsewhere whilst making some dangerous mistakes, even Chris Duffy who I admire for his skills, did not seem to be in his usual form yesterday or last Tuesday, perhaps he has been brought back in too soon after his groin strain. I look forward to seeing Parms return to selection, I think we have missed his determination in winning and containing the ball. Lee Boylan misses the through balls provided by the likes of Tilson, Stimson, Miller, Parms and Minton, would be good to see JeffM back too..

there are no outstanding teams in this league unless the K's have something special on the boil...unfortunatly without stimmo n tilson this may include us as well..on our day yes we can be on fire but we will have a lot more off days this season than last... we didnt lose though and we are still on course for 9 points behind by xmas.. anything better n that after our start is a bonus

True Canv - I do believe that our team Mid (last) term was the finest I have seen in non-league, then all went sour when Tilly & Bods had their OPs. What I will say of the current squad is that as individuals they are really something but we are only seeing them functioning as a 'Unit' part-time. I just wonder if we may have too many good individuals, sounds odd but a possibility. My main point is that we must secure all points at home and make Park Lane the fortress it used to be, draws at home are two points lost not one point gained.

im still not sure wether this collestion of players will gell or not .. the back four look a lot more solid now (yesterday aside) but i would like to see a real ball winner in the middle.. jk tried his best on sat but he is better used bursting fwd much like duffers forbes minton and er all our midfielders really .. benno is doing better in that role and is really trying hard, maybe he can do a buzz from 2 yrs bk n kind of come from nowhere to being indispenable.. talking of bodders, tho he may not be the fastest he certainly did gell the defence, wardy covers ground by the furlong and chenners aint far behing (when he isnt playing right wing).. also i cant wait to see parms back into the action..... finally another good crowd, not a great start to the season but we are still getting more people in.. would love to see 1,ooo piled up onto the new north bank .. i trust when aldershot n riccay turn up they will be packed off down the sea wall end

Neville Southall must be doing something right in training helping Potters become a better keeper because i thought he looked really good on Saturday and was the only member of the team that stood out. Even the goal that Braintree scored Potters was very unlucky not to save it.

Other than that a very disappointing performance from Canvey with the second half dragging on for ever. Keep Bennett in the middle though as he really seems to like that position and with Parms back on his feet am looking forward to his return in the squad.

Heads up lads.

Mick Bodley was last rumoured to be playing for the Southend United reserves. He's still signed on for Canvey Island FC but is no longer a member of the squad.
