Stevenage 1 Canvey 4 Thats more like it

Just got back form Stevenage what a great performance we dominated the game from start to finish and could have won by more. Every single player playing for Canvey tonight was superb.

Big worry about Lee Boylan I hope it won't be a long term injury. It was a disgraceful challenge from their number 15 which somehow went unpunished by the ref.

It was hard to pick a man of the match tonight they were all so good. Wardy and Cowan at the back hardly gave their forwards a sniff tonight. Their only goal came form a mistake by Potter who fumbled a free kick. He more than made up for it second half with a brilliant save.

Great touch from Jeff King to comeover to the fans and say thanks for coming.

The only other blemish is why do certain Canvey fans have to be constantly moaning at the ref? Yes it was a disgrace that he didnt book the player for the tackle on Boylan but it seems at times that some Canvey fans are more interested in slagging the ref off than getting behind the team. Lets lay off the ref a bit and really get behind the team The players will certainly appreciate it.

I thought that tonights ref wasnt as bad as some of the refs we have had this season, at least he let the game flow. Full marks to both the linesmen they were spot on tonight. One of the linesman flagged for offside against Stevenage but the ref didnt see him and played down. Cowan brought down one of their players and the ref gave a free kick just outside the area and was about to book Cowan but saw the linesman's flag and had to give a freekick for Canvey and let Cowan's challenge go. The other linesman gave a penalty for Canvey which the ref missed.

We showed tonight we can live in the conference. We thrashed one of the better teams. Roll on Saturday and hopefully our first home win.

I've lost my voice after that game!! A combination of slagging off the ref and getting behind the team!!

i think we do it away from home cos teams come out to play a bit, there is more chance of a goal and once play opens up that suits us just fine.. (and of course the fans get involved more)..

just been trawling through the somewhat irate boro message board.. pretty much universally they think we are a cr.p team.. lovely, lets hope we are as cr.p as gravesend

Great result and a real team effort, i wouldn`t like to pick a mom because there were a few contenders last night. Midgley`s goal must be the best move we have put together for a while and it was nice to see him finish it so well.

When you win 4-1 away and still moan about the ref it shows how bad he was, on second thoughts you had to be there to believe it.

If the post on the Stevenage forum is to be believed their players were cleaning the toliets at their ground on tuesday morning as punishment for saturdays performance, god knows what they will have to do after last night!

Well I'm absolutely gutted - gutted because I couldn't make it.

Sounds like you lads had a great evening whilst I had to be content with listening to it on the radio. Could hear the Yellow Army in the background late second half.

Been reading the Boro forum and the usual comments of us being "average" or cr*p - well I don't mind supporting a crap team if we are going to dick sides 4-1

Away support has been more positive away from home than at the Lane. I think it's generally because we are crammed together more (Exeter and Scarborough and they are both under a stand)- so people join in. Exception was Woking and that long side terrace where everyone was spread out. Can't comment on Stevenage - didn't go - did I mention I was gutted!

Hope the injury to Lee isn't to bad. Nice to hear that the referee didn't allow the standards of officialdom to rise.....

How many Canvey fans there last night?

Ollie said on the radio that they were determined to up the work rate after last saturday - lets hope the lads maintain it for FGR who had a good win at Woking.

Well done in stufing Westleys buffoons, nobody likes Cheatenage, nice to see you do them over big time.

We beat York too, so see you in the top half and maybe play-offs.

Congratulations again. See you at our place for a better game in Jan.

Freez (supping mild and eating black pudding obviously)

About 50-60 Canvey there last night. Not bad considering a coach wasn't run.

It was a fantastic ground. Cost a bit more than usual to get in but it was worth it. A few years back Stevenage were denied promotion to the Football League because their ground wasn't up to standard. Clearly that isn't the case now.

Hopefully when Canvey build their new ground it will be similar to Stevenage's ground.
