According to tonights Echo we are monitoring the situation between Grays and Southend and Jeff has spoken to their chairman about the player.

The Grays fans are not pleased http://www.footballw...d=26&thread=263

It will be one hell of a buy if we can get him, if hes willing to go to grays and southend he is probably willing to go anywhere, and if it anoyeys grays fans its even better. But to be honest I cant see it happening. But imagine him and boylan up front, oh that would be nice

On the last entry on the Grays forum, there is a link to the unofficial Southend site. Apparantly we are one of the most hated non-league sides in the country today. Funny how it's only teams like Grays, Gravesend or bloody Southend who talk like that.

I really can't believe what i hear sometimes on other teams forums. Yeah, sometimes we have a poke at other teams but i think only when it's merited or in jest. And we may not be liked by some teams. But it really does sound like sour grapes. I'm not surprised, but it annoys me that they talk utter crap sometimes.

Freddy Eastwood however is a great little player and if we got him, i think we could definately move up the table. But i agree with Ken, he's probably got his sites on something bigger and better. And that doesn't mean Southend (coz there sh*t!!!)

Your right it is only the likes of grays & southend that say that, its because there jealous of what we have achieved and what we are going to achieve in the future.

As for fredy Eastwood, it would be a great achievement by the club to get him hear and i cant see why he wouldnt come here unless a league club did make an offer. If it didnt work out at s'end and no other league club come in for him then i cant see why he wouldnt want to join a conf national team rather than going back to grays who will still be playing conf south unless H'churh slip up badly

Tend to agree - this "most hated non-league club" tag is crap and only tends to be raised by other "local" clubs.

There was a few clubs in the Ryman a number of seasons ago that didn't like the fact that Jeff had a few quid and liked spending it on players for CIFC.

Generally I think this tag faded and most "other" clubs felt that we had deserved our promotion in the end - you can spend money but it doesn't guarantee being runners up on three consecutive occassions - Jeff had a good team which played some good football.

Freddy would be a good aquisition, but I can't see it happening. Jeff might make him a good financial offer - but I would think his heart is playing at the highest possible level - so if Southend don't land him another league club, or full time Nat.Conf side will. I guarantee he won't stay at Grays - no money, no fans and no Conf. South title this year........shame <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

I agree our chances of signing Eastwood are less than nil but if a decent player becomes available there is no harm in expressing an interest, it's good to show a bit of ambition. Wherever Eastwood ends up I hope he does well (I'm sure it will be a league club). Meanwhile what is all this nonsense about being "one of the most hated non-league clubs in recent history" ? Hated by who ? Are there any "hated" non-league clubs ? As stated above it must be a local thing, wanting a reasonably successful club to fail (why ? what's wrong with an Essex club doing well ?).

I was speaking to a friend who watches Grays Ath. and he says they have done a lot of work on the ground and it does look a lot better (silk purse - sows ear - springs to mind) Would never stray into Grays to find out though......

However, you are correct about the Chavs - reading the bits on their forum you have to question the mentality of some of their "fans" and last year on other Ryman forums there was quite a few people saying how obnoxious and abusive the Grays fans were on away games.

Some things never change - like Grays league status <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Remember the abuse the Grays fans gave to Lee Boylan last season?

For the most part most of them are a decent bunch but you tend to get a few to$$ers who follow the club.

I don't think it is all local clubs that hate Canvey, you will get your rivalry with Gravesend and Hornchurch, plus Grays and Southend Utd.

The year we came 4th and you came 2nd, (3 or 4 Seasons ago) admitedly alot of people at Braintree (me included) hated Canvey at that time, but things move on. You are now two divisions apart from us and our rivalry with you has gone and it seems to be more with Heybridge and Billericay as they are from our Division. Plus we always revert to if you all hate Sudbury every game.

I know the Ricay boys hate you or the lads from this non league forum, but to be honest they hate everyone they tend to hate: Canvey, St.Albans, Hornchurch and Braintree from what I have read. As you say it must be jealousy.

Personally i think that as I remember you being in the Essex Senior League with the Bus Stop stand it is a remarkable story that your progression has gone from there to the brinks of the football league. I also would feel this way about Great Wakering, Ilford and all the other teams who have come through the Essex Senior League.

I wouldn't worry, if they hate you that much you must be doing something right, think about all the people that hate man utd and arsenal. Take it as a complement, that is how i am starting to view Ricays hatred. They are jealous of us. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Agree with that. I remember that final game of the 2001/02 season at your place when you won 2-1. Remember your fans cheering at the Gravesend half time score. Think it very nearly kicked off between our fans and yours when a couple of Braintree fans made a few comments to our lot. There was a lot of tension that day and to be honest it's a day I would rather forget.

Think there was a bit of rivalry between our two teams because you switched over to the Ryman just at the time we were working our way up the leagues (a little bit like the rivalry we had with Bedford) Seem to remember we had a couple of epic games in 1998/99 and pipped you to promotion that year.

I would have thought Eastwood a bit old now that he's retired as mayor of Carmel.

Canvefm, on St.Albans forum sure we established he scored 9 goals last season, 4 against Braintree and 3 against St.Albans. Another 2 to find.

I am sure it was him who scored the 4 against us on the opening day of last season when we lost 5.0 to Grays.

he didn't make that much of an impact when he played at park lane last season but when we played at grays he made himself a nescience and was causing our defense a whole lot of troubles. he is a good little player, hence why he is leaving grays
