Although I dont like to single out players and I must say that this player has always been one of my favourites, even so, I will always state the case good or bad. This player has been tops for the club season after season, but I did notice a drift of form from him at the later part of last and it has carried through to this season. Be it that we have now increased the training nights to three per week and the journeys for him have proved to be too much I dont know, butI do think that John Kennedy is struggling to find his form! a very worry situation, possibly a reason why our MR King has invested in a further mid-fielder, but we must remember that mid-fielders need a very strong engine. Neil Gregory is finding life hard to produce goals from open play, I really do think that we are finding life without Boylan a major complication, perhaps its time to give Hallet a chance to prove himself for more than Five minutes off the bench!!

An opportunity has just gone by for the club to grab another striker should we or have we already made an addition??

I can see what your saying Cangull. I wouldn't say that JK is struggling but he doesn't stand out as much as he did last year and we all feel differently about different players - someone I feel is not doing as well may be someone elses player of the month.

I think a number of players don't stand out as much as they did last year, but this may be expected due to the faster, more physical and fitter nature of Conference football.

The trouble is if you analyse all the players you will find fault throughout the squad and you then appear to be negative. However, it is the difference between scrapping at the bottom and being a viable proposition for a playoff place. If we had done the business on Friday night we would have moved above G&N and into 5th place. This league is still very tight. The team let themselves down in the first half and we all move on.

In the past we have all mentioned on this forum that the midfield seems weak and we were struggling to give Lee opportunities. Then everything changes. We miss Lee like any club would miss their leading striker. However, I think Junior has run his socks since Lee has been injured. Mints still hasn't played a full first team league game since his return from injury - this may have a positive effect on the team - did in the second half against Northwich.

We do already have a large squad - do we and can we afford another striker?

A number of players who started this season are not making the squad or playing smaller roles - some of them very good players - Joseph, Mcghee, Smith, Gooden, Dobbo - suprised some of these aren't getting fed up and feeling the urge to move on.

Over the past month I feel (IMHO) that the squad has started to settle into a format which I think holds us in great stead. Only Mints and Lee would require things being altered. However, I still think Segemore dies a death in the second half (not knocking him as he plays well and switches the ball fantascticaly - but is more effective in the first half). Should we look at starting someone else for a full game in midfield such as Goodwin, Dobbo or Williamson before looking at our forwards?

Agree with most of what you have said but 'Dobbo' I believe is still injured. Sedgemore game, does to me revolve around the first half, I have liked what I have seen of Gooden, he marshalls his area well and comes forward as the opportunity arrises. My main worries are John Kennedy(reasons as previously mentioned) Midgley just does not do it for me(he does seem to go about his game at the one one pace, which for me is not good enough)again although I like him Matt Joseph does not seem to be consistent enough. I do think we need to get a bit more 'polish' in a few more areas.

Smith, I agree! I always like the Smith but how is he going to squeeze back into the squad and perhaps the same may be said for Chenners who I think lacks a bit of pace against some of the opposition fowards that we have met so far this term.

Minton is back thank good but we still lack the striker with the ability of Boylan to convert with panache the through balls that Minton supplies.

Then again what do I know, Jeff has the worry of that, I just hope he will play his best players for the job rather than his favourites!!

I feel we have a team which will hold its ground in the Conference.

As I have said it is a fine line at the moment between potential play off and a near relegation spot in this league.

I know what you are saying about Midgely and I'm sure others that read this will take us to task. Generally I feel we all have simlar opinions on players strengths and weaknesses, we just don't like to highlight them.

We have some good players and this has been proved so far this season.

I'm sure Jeff does have some of his favourites and have felt that Chenners and Duffers have been two of these. Chenners did do well up until injury and Duffers does so as well.

However, the difference between us pushing for a top spot with "polished" players could mean a number of changes within the squad and these two may not make the final cut as well as others.

IMHO - those that would not quite make the grade over this season and would not fit into a polished side are Chenners, Duffers, Greggors, midgely and Sedgemore - controversial I know and I'm sure many people will jump on me for putting some of these names forward.

Don't get me wrong we have a great squad and one that has done well - but we ask the question about a "polished side" and I'm sure there are better players who could fill some of these positions. We have had some new faces such as Keeling who have fitted in great and would be hard to replace and existing players who have revelled in the challenge such as Ollie.

I think we would all agree that at the beginning of this season we would have been happy to survive our first season and it looks as though we will accomplish this, but if we want to push the likes of Carlisle, Barnet and Hereford etc. then we must get critical and knit picky - I just don't think we need to be at the moment.

With the likes of some of the bottom clubs winning this week, this division is so very tight and any weaknesses are exploited. Hopefully after a good run, we can win points to secure our place in the Conf this season and consolidate.

I was just wondering that the team is good enough to hold its own in this division, as it has shown. For this season though, I wonder if we did finish in the play offs then what would happen bearing in mind the ground situation.

I’m hoping this season we can achieve our aim of staying in this division and if there are ground developments in time, then would of thought the club will undergo transition, players and all, preparing for the even higher level.

Its a weird league. We are a couple of wins off a play off spot and a couple of defeats away from 19th place - not really as simple as that but take a look at the table.

I am quite confident we will not bottom out, but it would still be nice to finish as high as possible in our first season to give ourselves a target to achieve next season.

But this season will have little or no reflection on next season and this season isn't over yet. I've seen quite a few games this season - both home and away - and there's not been many teams that have stood out for me - a lot of them seem to be a bit of a muchness with little distinguishing them.

IMHO we have had our easier run of games recently and now we need to dig in again and battle for those valuable points against higher opposition.

Haven't heard a great deal about the ground recently, but I think it is a large part of the CIFC puzzle. In our current state, including a new ground, I think we would be a bit of a laughing stock in the football league. Our gates are to poor and I suppose the transition would need to include full time playing staff, admin, marketing etc. and I don't feel we are any where near that at the moment.

Wouldn't it P*** everybody else off though if we did achieve it? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/rockon.gif" alt="" />
