Aldershot Game

Just read the brief match report on the site.

Seems that we did not have the best of starts, conceeding after 2 mins. Appears though that we tried to battle back into the game this time with Kevin having a couple of chances. Then we conceeded our second fairly late on.

Be interesting what those who went to see have to say. At least we had more of go this time but the ref was card happy it seems.

Roll on Halifax and be good to hear how Greg gets on.

In fairness our record against Aldershot is awful and despite shots' recent poor form I always thought we would have more chance of getting something against Halifax.

Most of the sides below us drew or lost so we're still in a decent position and hopefully we should have a few players back for Saturday.

Completely and utterly dominated the 1st half with shots only having 2 chances (both though silly mistakes) the first they scored and the second was a one on one with Danny (shots player was well offside) and Danny made a great save. Aldershot didn’t like being second best and went to ground at any challenge, rolling about like they have been shot and then hacking the sh*t out of Canvey, it all got a bit nasty and shots were very lucky not to loose at least one man. Braniff was fantastic 1st half (as were the whole team bar a few silly mistakes) taking shots from all over the place and making the shots keeper work all in all we went in at the half time a goal down but by far the better side. In the second half we came out looking to carry on the rough and tumble but in all fairness to the shots they decided to play football (still going down like a sack of sh*t every time someone went near them) for some reason Braniff now started to play deep and Canvey lost their way, still had the most possession but now couldn’t really do anything with it. Why on earth Braniff took on that roll I don’t know. All in all the team played well and well and truly deserved a point from today if not all three, but the luck wasn’t with us, and the ref defiantly wasn’t (one of the poorest of the season so far)

Gregory had to limp off after the first 10 minutes and Wardy didn’t come out for the second half (whether Cowan is injured I don’t know but we really missed him on the bench today) hopefully they are ok and wont add to our very injured squad.

My one major complaint with the team is that with the exception of Danny Dom and someone else I cant remember there was no thanks to the (ok very very few) Canvey fans that had cheered them on. That was very disappointing.

All in all the team done very well and should have had this one in the bag. Aldershot were a dirty team who made the most of a very poor ref, with a full squad we would have walked it.

Make you right on the above Ken. Aldershot dirty and really lucky.

Braniff moved behind when junior came on and ollie went forward, obviously an idea that came from the bench, it didn't really work did it. Braniff is so much mor potent at the sharp end!

We are too busy approaching and in the box, it gives defenders time to get back in numbers, we have got to stop trying to walk the ball into the net.

Aldershot dirty? ,what about the two punches thrown off the ball hence all the booing in the second half ,what about everytime a minor incident happened Canvey tried to turn it into something bigger by first jostling the Aldershot player and then completely surrounding the ref .The words "Kettle and black" come to mind

I must agree on one thing that referee .where do they find them ,what a total [****!!****]

Some "interesting" views on the game last night here!

We were awful for most of the game, and granted you had the lions share of the possession for the first half. Trouble is, you didn't know what to do with it!

Our keeper had to deal with (mainly) speculative efforts from outside the box, and a few crosses played in too close for your strikers to get anywhere near.

Our defence was there for the taking in the first half, and a better side would have been three or four goals up by half time.

We took the one chance we had early on, and wasted a great chance later in the first half (and he was ONside).

Second half saw us play with a bit more structure and composure, forcing you to try and break us down, which ultimately you couldn't do.

A couple of things stood out for me last night though.

Firstly, we were poor, but I'm afraid to say you were worse.

Secondly, and it was the same after the FA Cup game, Peter Smith has absoutely no footballing talent in his body whatsoever. Continually fouling and niggling, he was ignored by the referee (who doesn't even merit talking about) for the entire time he was on.

Some of his "highlights" included a throw to the floor a WWE wrestler would have been proud of, a blatant swing of the arm in to the face of Tim Sills (who had just returned with stitches), and a tackle in the box on a player too quick for him that should have been a penalty. All of which went unpunished by what seemed to be a card happy ref.

I don't normally single out individuals after games, but I can honestly say I hope we never have to play a game against a side containing him again. Cynical does not cover it.

Hmmmm..... ok.

Presumably, you mean the two instances of that during the first half.

Well, the first was a 50/50 which your player came out of the worst, and yes, Steve Watson did aim a "clearance" at his head. Surprisingly, he actually hit his intended target which is very unusual!

The second, over on the other side, was a foul granted, but not the scything challenge you intimate. Darren Barnard then cleared the ball as the referee blew his whistle. This clearance was a genuine one, as Clarke was taking off down the left. It was the fact your player was about to roll in the other direction, requiring him to "sit up" and then lay the other way that meant the low ball hit him. Not intentional.

As a point of interest, your number 16 (sorry, don't know his name) physically manhandled the referee out the way during his thirty yard sprint across the pich to get to Barnard. I always thought that was a bookable offence?

In essence, the referee had lost all control by this point, and your players took it upon themselves to decide how "dirty" we were.

In truth, there were few really bad tackles in the match. One was the two footed lunge by your 14(?) down in front of the dugouts, which went unpunished.

the fact that he aimed a clearance at his head is a straight red, your no 11 should have been off for the dreadful two footage challenge on wardy straight after he was warned for one 20 seconds before and was only shown a yellow the fact we lost 2 players due to bad challenges just demonstrates how bad the shots team were. yes the canvey boys were a little naughty but only after complete provocation.

When your team is dirty and it gets you points, you seem to ignore the fact that they are fouling barstads and try to justify a kick in the head as just one of those things!

Ken, your facing a losing battle trying to convince Aldershit tossers that they did anything wrong. We all know what there like!

They'll get their comuppance eventually and then we can all sit back and laugh, like i did when they lost on penalties last year!

Two incidents ,the first one was actually chris Giles and steve watson was booked for the initial challenge ,the second one was Darren Barnard who along with your player was booked for what happened after ,neither Chris or darren were booked for kicking the ball at players, because in both cases they were already going through the motions of clearing the ball as the whistle went

Simmontino - Perhaps that highights your view(Hmmn) of the game, if you cant see the numbers then what does it say about your opinion of the game. Get yourself a pair of Bino's could be the answer, then you would see the terrible niggly fouls your players were continually sticking in!

says a lot about the difference between the teams that in our first season we got to the play off final and were unlucky to lose - ask Shrewsbury fans...and you laughed....in your first season you may well end up in a relegation dogfight..ha bloody ha

both teams last night were awful - the shots players were obviously getting wound up with your constant diving...how Chris Giles did not react to that disgraceful punch thrown in his face I will never know - theres aggressive physical football and then theres punching someone...a bit different

I will not even go into your no 22 though other than he was lucky not to break tim sills back

anyway, good luck for the rest of the season <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
