Ever wonderd why enfield town are playing the game against afc wimbledon at cheshunt? I was thinking and thought what if thay were worried about a big crowed turning up and the locals went benny!!! might harm any people thay have on there side at brimsdown club and locals who dont mind! I myself am a local and a member of the brimsdown sports club and didnt have a view about either of Enfield OR Enfield town playing at brimsdown, but just thought now Enfield town can build there in a few years the amount of people going will increase anyway! So why did every one stop Enfield going there in the 1st place ?? Anyway just a little point sorry if any of the teams fan's get offended by this. Steve G

And it was gently explained more than once that the reason the game is to be played at Cheshunt is because the main pitch at Brimsdown is not available. The cricket team have use of the field until well into September. The floodlights are not erected and the rail around the pitch is not erected. I presume that the goals are not erected either, and they are normally considered indispensable!

To further dispel any paranoid conspiracy theories, may I remind you that exactly the same thing happened last season, when ETFC's first home game was on Wednesday 12 September.

The rumour I heard at the time was that Lazarou tried to take over the lease and quite naturally alarm bells rang loud and long amongst the Brimsdown members.

Ah.... but the friendlies weren't!

So how do you expect to progress when cricket takes priority or are you going to take over by other means?????????

One of the reasons why Brimsdown FC want an enclosed ground of their own.

A few points worth noting...

  • 1. We only played two friendlies at the Downs last season. The first was a jointly hosted game against Brimsdown Rovers and was our first ever game. The second was against Cheshunt. All the rest of our pre-season friendlies were away and the other home friendly (v Wormley) was well after the cricket season finished.

    2. The friendly against AFC Wimbledon is midweek and, as has been pointed out more than once already, floodlights will be required. The Downs doesn't have them.

    3. Both Brimsdown Rovers and ourselves will be in an off-the-field position to progress once the work has been done. The football ground will be enclosed so the cricket season won't impinge on it anyway. What I heard last season was that the Downs was expected to be turned into a cricket ground for Brimsdown's cricket section.

    4. The planning application was Brimsdown's, not ours. Yes, in the short term we will benefit from the new ground being built but it won't be ours.

    5. We are not going to take over. We are still looking for a home of our own within the Borough of Enfield.

Re. Steve G's original question about Enfield FC at Brimsdown: to the best of my recollection Lazarou either withdrew his planning application or elected not to submit it. He allegedly had drawings prepared and arranged for them to be publicly displayed at the ground at a residents open day/Q and A meeting type of thing, but cancelled this about two days before the event, claiming that the petition against the ground raised by residents put him off. How convenient.

Obviously I have no knowledge of Brimsdown's negotiations with Mr Lazarou.

Enfield Town are NOT building at Brimsdown. The ground and the planning application are both Brimsdown Sports and Social Club's. ETFC ground share there until we can find a ground of our own.
