Celebrities will get to grips with each other in the ring for a new wrestling show on ITV.

Celebrity Wrestling will see twelve stars competing to become King and Queen of the ring. In the main, celebrities tend to lack vital wrestling skills and so they will receive training from American professionals.

The male celebrities who have signed up to compete for the title of King of the ring are: James Hewitt, ex-EastEnders actor Marc Bannerman (Gianni DI Marco), athlete Iwan Thomas, show jumper Oliver Skeete, Jeff Brazier (Jade Goody's ex) and children's TV presenter Mark Speight.

They will be joined by the potential Queens: Big Brother winner Kate Lawler, presenter Jenny Powell, tennis player Annabel Croft, page three model Leilani Dowding and model Victoria Silvstedt.

The show will be presented by Kate Thornton and WWF's Rowdy Roddy Piper, an will feature bouts in the ring, the steel cage and a podium.

An ITV spokesman said: "This is wrestling as it's never been seen before with the celebrities being taught real skills to win real bouts.

"The celebrities are not just competing for fun. There are points and pride at stake and ultimately there can be only one King and Queen of the ring."

as a wrestling fan I don't know what to make of it, but I think that this has real bad idea written all over it. The WWE themselves did Tough Enough where they took 12 normal people and trained them to be wrestlers, and three got serious injuries which put paid to a career in a ring.

A steel cage match? You have got to be [censored] kidding me!
