Hayes Predictions

Matt H

Recommended Posts

Right now the Pre-Season games are out of the way and everyone has had a chance to see the players attempt to bond together, is anyone going to predict next week's starting line-up and score? Bear in mind that Ash is on his Honeymoon, Wardy is on holiday and Duffy is suspended.

I'll go for:

1. Greygoose

2. Kennedy

3. Forbes

4. Davidson

5. Chenery

6. Adedeji (if he's not fit then Dobinson)

7. D. Gregory

8. Miller

9. N. Gregory

10. Boylan

11. Jones.

Score - 3-1, Boylan to score first.

5. Ollie Adedeji

6. Micky Bennett

7. Lee Protheroe

8. David Gregory

Not too sure about duffers. Seems to of lost quality over the last season or too, I think Matt Jones is quite a bit better, 'specially with the crosses. I can see it being a good season though. Seems a pretty dull atomosphere at the friendlies (as usual). I didnt manage to reach the Gravesend one, did we play well? Hopefully the support will get better. We need everything to secure a conference place this year. From my opinion, we aint got much competition, but then again, I said that about Gravesend last year. Look what happened there. Anyway, just wanna say good luck to everyone. See ya

To be honest and no disrespect to either of them but I was very surprised to find Chris Duffy and Steve Parmenter still with the Club. I thought both of them may have been shown the door during close-season!

Im suprised parms didnt walk out, we got spence, and too many other decent midfielders. I couldnt really see duffers going. Hmmm, better get to bed soon, got to meet at rayleigh station at 9am So, who's gonna win the league this year?

If we are to persist with three central defenders then from watching pre-season friendlys the following seems essential

our three at the back (whoever) have been consistantly exposed when wide players and center-mid-fielders fail to protect the ground in front of the back three

an essential skill for a back three defender is in delaying attacking forwards until mid-fielders fill in the gaps (closing down and stopping the run)

these MF AND CD become tight units inside the team

I suggest on the right Adedejie and Kennedy

on the left Davidson and Forbes

in the central mid-field we must have a ball winner who operates from in front of the cenral defender, again a unit inside the team and suggest

Chenery and Protheroe

the essential ingrediant being mid-fielders who can defend

defenders who can hold-up the attack

work those players into a tight understanding single unit and there is plenty of other talent available to take us one stage better than last season

This was very obvious in the second half of the match at our place on Saturday when three goals came from wide players getting to the bye-line and crossing for easy headers.

correct and in each case the left sided or right sided center back was pulled wide to cover the winger

playing three center backs means they should where ever possible be making the second tackle not the first

if making the first tackle in wide areas they have normally been pulled out of position

I hope I eat my words and this will be controversial but I feel that Davidson should not be in the starting line up. To be honest, I don’t know why he was signed. If you remember, when the team virtually picked itself in the trophy year, he just did not quite make the first 14 when he played. I feel this signing was a step backwards rather than progressing to buy conf standard players. Also I do not agree with reply’s about Duffy’s performances last season. In fact, I thought he was one of our best players and made things happen when others couldn’t.

lets remember when judging mid-fielders in the modern game IE playing three at the back then their defensive duties must rate circa 40% of their value to the team (I am not refering to any particular player)

we all have our own opinions but in the trophy year CD played around 43 plus games for the team up to and including the game against Farnborough (2-1 to us) which was the game prior to the Trophy final

that does not mean I agree or disagree with you but forgetting CD most of our ex-pros have proven records beyond conference level

the important issue is getting the mix right and using each players stregnths
