Isthmian Fans having another dig at you lot!

Why does Steve at Isthmian Fans hate you so much?

All I see is one dig after another at you lot!

This is what he predicts for next season for you, I hadn't seen this when I posted my earlier message...

Quote:

Probably now the most unpopular team in the Premier Division especially now they are charging £9 for adults just to stand on the terraces at Park Lane. However, that aside, Jeff King has decided to rebuild his squad as he hopes it will be third time lucky in winning the championship after two successive seasons finishing second. Three of the more experienced players have left the club, two of them joining Grays Athletic in Mark Stimson and Peter Smith. However, there is some undoubted quality coming into the club in defender Ollie Adedeji from Aldershot Town and midfielder Scott Forbes from Southend United in particular. One key player from last season, Lee Boylan, who led the scoring charts in the Ryman League, has agreed to stay at the club, and that will be a big boost to King. However, the supporters who decided to fork out the money to watch Canvey, bearing in mind season tickets are cheaper at neighbours Southend United, will be disappointed again and Canvey will be bridesmaids once again in the championship race.

IN : Matt Jones (Dagenham & Redbridge), Ollie Adedeji (Aldershot Town), Craig Davidson (Braintree Town), Lee Protheroe (Aldershot Town), Scott Forbes (Southend United), David Gregory (Colchester United)

OUT : Mark Stimson (Grays Athletic), Peter Smith (Grays Athletic), Steve Tilson (Southend United (asst manager)), Ian Thompson (released)

Last Season - 2nd. Steve's Prediction - 3rd. Hillsy's Prediction - 5th.

Quite clearly he has a grudge against you lot!!

He's a Hendon fan! 'Nuff said.

On a more serious note though. I don't know what his problem with our Club is. I could understand all other Ryman clubs loving to hate us last year when some of the Yellow Army claimed that Canvey were going to walk the League. But I haven't seen a hint of that this year.

The EFM at St. Albans hate us simply because of an incident that happened at Park Lane last season... But I can't see everyone elses problem. We are simply a Non-League club with ambitions to join the football league. But who hasn't though?

But people just love to dig us time and time again....

hehe everyone hates us.. in fact i cant think of a single clubs fans that even has a grudging respect for what this club has achieved.. its been widely discussed on here time and again so i wont dredge it up again.. what i will say is that i cant think of a single club we really have a problem with.. sure there has been the odd incident but even basericay dont bother us too much.. tho natch we bother them.. maybe we lack the isthmian and southern league history of some of the ex bigger clubs.. maybe in 25 years time when we are in conf 'south east' level 11 or something people will look back and say canvey, they used to be a face in non league...

One thing jealous clubs like to throw at us is - "Oh you were nothing 10 years ago when we were riding high in the Premier Division and going to Wembley"...

Trouble is they live in the past, when will they realise that, that was then and this is now!?

That's why we never choose anyone to hate.

If we say we hate someone it's most probably retaliation for an off the field incident like St. Albans or that old team, Collier Row & Romford.

I generally like Romford too. I prefer them now rather than five years ago.

It was rather entertaining watching the Canvey players rushing to the tunnel at the end of the game, waiting to bash the Romford boys up!

But I will always remember the twofooted stomp that one of the, then Romford players done. It was on Mark Barry and I was four feet away from it! I felt sick after seeing it. I'm surprised Mark only chipped part of his bone. I thought his whole hip was gonna shoot out his body! Urgh!!!

To put it bluntly Canvey are disliked because of the general arrogance of the club and some (not all) of its fans, and the clubs paltry attendance figures prove that the club are no more popular amongst the locals. Then there is the outragous £9 admission charge to stand in a....

well lets just say its not the best ground in the Ryman, and it seems many of the clubs own fans are up in arms, and understandably so, over this.

How you say it is a poor ground - on what are you basing that claim?

Are you basing it on their new terracing that dominates one end of the ground - on their new(ish) boardroom and changing facilities - or are you basing it on the fact that they are not allowed by local planning regulations to build above the level of surrounding bungalows?

I have been to many non league grounds (as a hobby) - and I find Canvey's to be one of the better ones - for example - the very poor wooden terracing at Hitchin that is full of litter beneath it - one dropped match, and the whole of the terracing would go up - or the poor catering facilities at Billericay - the broken seats in the main stand at Croydon (not to mention the distance from the ground) - the lack of cover down the whole side at Purfleet.

The point is that every ground has its problems - Canvey's problem is that they are restricted in what they can build - they have conference grading - and when I visited towards the end of last season, I found thie new terracing gave excellent views of the game - and to be honest views with no other ground can match (that I think of) without sitting in a stand.

Can I ask you Mr. Rotten - when was the last time you went to Canvey?

Please also tell me - which other club has re-built virtually their whole ground in the last 5-6 years - Canvey has - their only old part is the clubhouse, but at least last time I was there I was quicly served, which is a lot more than I can say for other clubs.

You see Mr. Rotten, it is far more than just outward appearance or how it compares to Old Trafford that matters - it is all the small things that make up a good ground - tidyness, politeness, service, hospitality etc., life is far more than a nice seater stadium - just ask fans of clubs like Chester!

valid points w.f. but wasted on here.. the likes of crawshaw wont be happy untill canvey have a 7 tier surrond sound stadium with 65k in every game .. 3 farthings for a 7 generation season ticket and some one to carry you from the car park to your seat.. natch he dosent mention which club he happens to follow tho i expect i to be the current flavour of the month

Cheers Canv - I just get fed up with people always slagging Canvey off - that is why I will not go onto Steve's site, because he enjoys it as well.

I could easily hate Canvey after you lot got promoted, and we didn't - but as I said before life is too short to bear grudges.

I hope to visit your ground again this season - is that young lady still behind the bar - always got a nice smile

Matthew, remember it well, I was there.

The Romford player involved in the Berry incident, last heard of at Tilbury, was suitably punished by an unknown Canvey player severely stamping on his hand. This resulted in a dodgy blood condition, several days in Hospital and an arm trussed up like a steak and kidney pudding. A dishonourable draw I would say. I said before somewhere that missing handbags are still being looked for. Good luck for the season ahead.

Yes Mr Wealdstone fan you may ask when I last visited Canvey, it was a few years ago now, I've not had any sudden urge to return, so yes I'd have to agree that the ground may have improved since then but does that justify a £9 admission charge?

Surely the clubs attendance figures speak for themselves?

I've also visited many non league grounds as a hobby and have found many clubs to be far more friendly and welcoming than they are at Canvey.

And then there is the general arrogance of the club, though what they've got to be arrogant about I don't know, and even the great Jeff King admitted in the non league paper that this arrogance had cost them the title last season.

And why are you trying to stick up for Canvey? It wouldn't be anything to do with the fact that Wealdstone are not exactly the most popular club in the Ryman? A case of birds of a feather perhaps?
