fire power

My only concern going into this season is our lack of fire power on the bench. Every 1 knows that its lee Boylan and greggers up front but what if 1 gets injured or susspended, i dont think we have the quality in that posistion to step in.Plus we lose 20 from tilly. Still i may be wrong so bring on Hayes.

Now we only have cobby left in that position, and i dont think of him as much of a quality player. He can do well when he wants to, but he obviously didnt in the friendlies. I couldnt see him staying much longer if he played like that. Anyway, im sure we'll snap up some other good youngster from someone. Jermaine De Foe perhaps?

Seems like not even the FA know what the situation is: the following from the romford recorder:

ESSEX rivals Purfleet and Canvey are locked in a tug of war over striker Wayne Vaughan on the eve of the new Ryman Premier Division season.

Fleet boss Colin McBride appeared to have pulled off a major coup by signing Vaughan, who fell out of favour at Park Lane last season, for nothing.

Vaughan's agent told Purfleet the player was available, having not been placed on Canvey's retained list at the end of the last campaign.

McBride explained: "Wayne's agent showed us a letter from the FA stating that he was a free agent and was free to move anywhere."

Vaughan impressed in pre-season matches and signed a two-year deal with the club on Saturday.

"I've been up front with Kingy [Canvey boss Jeff King] and asked him if he was aware that Wayne was not registered," McBride continued. "I've certainly not been gloating about it.

"Now the FA tell us that something has come to light from Canvey and they can't take Wayne's contract until they receive a letter from them.

"I don't know if the FA are moving the goalposts or if they are paranoid about a small club like Purfleet.

"The thing that brasses me off is that they told us to go ahead and sign him."

Chief executive Tommy South concurred: "I've got a letter from the FA clearly stating Wayne Vaughan was not on Canvey's retained list on May 27 this year. If you would have shown that to any manager they all would've jumped at it.

"I've spoken to Jeff King and he told me he wants a fee. He said the FA haven't got the paperwork he's got.

"We don't want to fall out with Canvey but it looks like we are suffering again despite being the innocent party. He's a free agent and can play for who he likes with no fee involved: end of story.

"They are saying he can't play on Saturday and that, if he does, we are admitting that the deal will go to a tribunal."

As we went to press McBride and South were hoping to resolve the matter before Fleet face Alan Devonshire's Maidenhead at Ship Lane tomorrow (Saturday).

I thought that it was straight forward If he was over 24 then Bosman applied and he was a free agent, but if he was younger then although he is out of contract, then Canvey can ask for a fee.

What am I missing?
