Not wishing to rubbish the competition in our league, but I was wondering whether our league is easier in comparison to the other conference feeders. Or perhaps the opposite.
The reason for my question is that my brother, sad though it may be, is a misguided fan of Chelmsford City of the Dr Martens premier. Went with him on Tues to Newport IOW to see the Clarets win 3-0. He reckons that their league is tougher as the teams in it are closer matched. (If you look at the top of their league, all the teams have dropped points in at least 3 or more games).
Personally I think that our league has more Conference level teams near the top! images/icons/cool.gif" border="0

I would agree that the Ryman Premier has more quality teams that seem to fare well against Conference teams.
I really wouldn't like to second guess the standard of the Dr Martins league.
Considering that Billericay beat Chelmsford in a pre season 3-1 I would say that Chelmsford are not the same team they were last season. They have also lost Portway, who was their top striker last season. So I wouldn't put too much on just one team. images/icons/smile.gif" border="0

ryman teams performed better in the trophy last season..i think the ryman has 4 or 5 teams that would compete in any of the feeder leagues at the highest level
once the cups get going we will get a clearer picture

Agreed CANV.
Well another message board in which to abuse each other (which has been lacking of late - my new bug bear is Braintree. You can't argue with the success of Canvey Island... well I could).
We're playing St. Albans in our round of the F A Cup so who knows. Would've been nice to have a Dr. Martins team though.
images/icons/cool.gif" border="0

I've always been impressed with the quality of Ryman Premier teams and you only need to look at the quality of Dagenham & Redbridge (ex-Ryman), Aldershot (consitently well placed over many years), Farnborough (last season's display was extremely good, even if it pains some of us to say so) and, of course, our very own Canvey.
Canvey must not live too much in the past, but the way they stood up to higher opposition - Stevenage, Chester, Port Vale, Forest Green, Southend - you have to agree that Ryman Premier is a pedigree to be proud of.
Of course there are NO easy teams because every team can, and does, have their day. How many clubs have met 'easy teams' and been turned over? Port Vale must have thought that they had an 'easy team' when they were drawn to play at Park Lane in last year's FA Cup.
Don't know too much about Chelmsford. Never hear of them making any headlines. I believe the tough action goes on in our own, beloved RPL.

Gazza

Why is Braintree your bugbear? Coz we spent many years in the lower stratas of senior football? I'll let you know we as Crittals Athletic playing on the same Cressing Road ground were drawing regular 1000+ gates. Read our club notes yaself. I remember Billericay town playing Junior football on Sun corner. We deserve to be where we are, and we're not going backwards. I wonder if Harrow, Hendon or Purfleet are bug bears of yours? images/icons/confused.gif" border="0

oops, I seem to have ommitted parts of my above posting. Yeah Braintree as Crittall Athletic regularly drew 1000+ crowds to Cressing Road pre WW2 with well known players like the legendary West Ham and Scotland player John Dicks turning out for us, we have a football history. On the other hand, I recall seeing your lot playing on a Basildon council pitch at Sun corner only 30 years ago. But thats ok too.
[ 16 September 2001: This message was edited by: Iron knob ]
[ 16 September 2001: This message was edited by: Iron knob ]

High Gazza BTFC(The imposters).
As supporters of the REAL BTFC we can understand you being miffed at Braintree Town taking away your 100% record but banter is far better than abuse, unless of course we are talking about Bedford Town who are the REAL imposters. As for Basingstoke, well dont even go there....... images/icons/rolleyes.gif" border="0

Hello Gazza - back on your Braintree treadmill - come on you're amongst friends - share your little secrets and hang-ups with us - maybe we can get to the psychological root of your problem and lead you to the land that is forever ... Braintree
Or on the other hand let you wallow in the pain and misery which will last for as long as we remain above you!
Or I could just stop drinking and not come onto this board pissed!!! images/icons/shocked.gif" border="0

I met Leon Guztmore mum the other day and she said you Billericay fans were the nicest supporters she had ever met but she couldn't work out why you would hate Braintree so much!!

Ooooooooo, keep boasting that you're higher than us, please. And then when you eventually slip to 10th or 16th position, can I take the p*ss?
All I can say is I don't particularly enjoy watching a game of football, supporting my side with eight or nine prats taking the p*ss out of myself and others. There were women and children there. And considering that the elder members of your supporters were laughing as well to some of our considered responses, I thought "what kind of supporters are these?"
Now I know banter goes on and all fair to it, I haven't got a problaem with that but these people that call themselves Braintree supporters were only interested in winding up the "soft targets" ie. Families and perhaps the "safe non violent types". They didn't call out encouragement to Braintree, just stood there taking the p*ss. And all the other Braintree supporters laughed. What a joke, "cat calling" when a boy of 11 cries out "come on you whites" and then all your old men laugh. How mature!!! Some of 'em didn't even have the courage to look at the father when he turned round and gave them a mouthfull!!! Okay, it's a football match, okay you can expect that and, when I got the same I retorted but what really get stuck in my craw (and I'll repeat this) THEY DID NOT ONCE CALL ENCOURAGEMENT OUT FOR BRAINTREE. Thier purpose was to take the p*ss out of anyone who call encouragement for Billericay and try and start something. Why didn't they go behind the goal we were kicking towards and try that one out!!! I'm sure the response would have been friendly.
I'm sure that this is not an example of all the support at Braintree but when you stand right next to it, it colours your opinion.
And, I'm not an advocate of violence at football but it got so bad that I was sorely tempted to slap someone. I'm calm now.
You may think that this rant is a bit strange. Complaining about attitudes and behaviour such as I have described. I mean, it isn't the worse at any football ground that I have seen but it had an effect which was designed to start something and it was childish.
Myself personally, yes I can go over the top with my moaning but I take the attitude that there isn't one person I "chat" to one this board or the NLOTN board that I couldn't have a drink with (there are a couple of exceptions) at a game. When I go to watch Billericay I encourage and SUPPORT my team. I'm to busy doing that, watching the game to take the "mick" out of the opposing supporters (yeah, and have a go at the ref and linesman - I'm not a whole angel). I can't understand the mentality of people who go to see "thier" team and are there just to have a go at the opposing supporters.
It is stupid and they, in my opinion are, no - brainers!!!
images/icons/mad.gif" border="0

One other point (goan, do I hear you graon), I've been bantering with Canvey supporters for most of last season. There were times when, I think the insults on the message boards got a bit "heavey" but we were certainly try to find new and interesting ways to have a go at each other. It was okay, it was banter. A bit of a giggle at times.
When we played Canvey, I never once witnessed what I witnessed at Braintree. Okay, I can't be everywhere in a ground but they supported (sometimes a bit quietly but hey, are they cardboard cutouts? - couldn't resist lads, sorry) their side and got with that.
Yep, there was banter from the two sets of supporters behind the goals but it's football, that is part of it.
But at New Lodge and at their ground, just good humoured support.
Now, the Reverend Gazza will stop his "fire and brimstone" preaching and pratice good will to all men including Canvey and Braintree supporters.
Amen.

Gazza
Thanks for your well detailed and moral explanation as to why IRON are your bugbear team, Its not the clubs fault that a few wimps are paying to attend our games and are taking the mickey out of visiting supporters.
We are a family club with a good record on crowd incidents. I'm dissapointed that you had a miserable time at Cressing Road, most visitors are complimentary towards the smart appearance of the stadium, the quality of our burgers and the placidness of our spectators. Perhaps your trip was messed up by "newcomers" that pinched your party act.
With regards final outcomes I don't think we'll make top six but i fancy we'll finish ahead of the Billericay pretenders. Good luck. images/icons/shocked.gif" border="0

If you read my "essay" on the NLOTN site about that night, you'll see that I complimented the club athough the burgers have got to go some way to beat the Fleet burger.
As to finishing above the real BTFC - you're having a laugh!!!
Off to Kingstonian tonight. Another "new" club. Stay tuned for my comments.

Gazza just to add some support to your comments, these mindless fools,(and yes I have been guilty at times of spraying the opposing supporters some verbal, just ask Ricky!!, but would consider it light hearted banter and not on the scale you speak of), but to make a young boy upset is dispicable, these people that do this kind of thing you speak of should realise how important it is for their favoured club that thuggery will prevent the club from progressing as support will diminish if people see that this kind of behavour goes on! I've said it before! NON league football is second to none partly because of the raw talent that can be seen on the pitch and partly because of the friendly atmosphere that goes with it!
Banter yes, but keep within the realms of light heartedness and don't cross the line it will harm this wonderfull sport..

Hi Gazza thanks for the succinct reply - straight from the heart methinks! I think the reason why people on the boards wind you up is your love for Billericay is obvious - makes you an easy target - unfortunately you give as good as you get!
Sorry that your view of Braintree has been clouded and no doubt every team will agree its go its fair share a naff supporters - yes we obviously have ours too.
And we are also realists - we know we haven't got a hope in hells chance of winning the league so yer as long as we stay at the right end of the table we will savour every minute cos it wont last for ever. But however unpopular our football seems to be its certainly paying dividends - Bedford are apparantly playing entertaining football - but do we want to swap places - don't think so!
So lets keep the banter friendly - have your off days and we will have ours - but at the end of the day its football!. images/icons/tongue.gif" border="0

Cheers for the comments lads.
I don't think my love of Billericay was obvious to those at Braintree that I spoke of. I was just a regular supporter (if there is anything regular about me).
Here on the message board, and like any one of us, I take the banter in good part. As I said, I am more than willing to meet up and have a drink with any one of you, at New Lodge or your ground, as I consider you chaps, "friends".
Obviously we all feel the same towards our clubs and therefore all our views, be them serious or humourous, worth reading and considering.
It is just those few "no brainers" that, as you say, ruin a game and a good afternoon or evening out.
I can safely say that the Kingstonian supporters were quite friendly. One chap even comiserated with me by saying "well, we've threatend to "cane" a team this season and I'm sorry it was you". Which was lies but hey, he understood. You go all that way on a wet Tuesday evening and your team just can't be bothered to put up even a fight.
You leave with the score line 4-1 only to travel back, moaning about certain players, or player (Mr. Lee Williams my mother could play better than you. Do us all a favour and go to play for an Essex Senior Club where your talents would just make the grade).
Oh one point, the "banter" and I use that term loosely, at the Braintree game, didn't make the boy cry but he was as confused as **** . That isn't fair and in some ways worse.
Still, lets close the subject. We've all had plenty to say on the subject and I have welcomed all your comments gratefully.
I tell you what, it is going to be a close season this year and a very interesting one. Who knows who is going to win....
Keep up the banter and good luck to us all on Saturday. especially to those teams that got beaten 4 -1 last night.
images/icons/cool.gif" border="0
