Junior never earnt his money but i suppose he never really had the chance????

He had plenty of starts after Lee got injured at Stevenage.

Not as effective in front of goal as perhaps I'd hoped but he did cover a lot of ground and generally did give it 100% when given a start. He also had a short spell of injury at the same time Lee was out - that did leave us short of options.

Sad to see Peter Smith go though it wasnt a surprise If he is reading this then I would like to thank him for his long service for Canvey. He played an important part in our rise up the Leagues.

His best game that I saw him play was the FA Cup tie against Northampton. He never gave their forwards a sniff that day and played a massive part in us winning the game.

Good luck for the future Peter

Agree about Smithy. Will always remember that goal against Port Vale. What a strike!!!

Shame about Midgley. He always worked hard and did ok last season. Weighed in with a couple of goals and most of them were really well taken efforts.

Williamson was too lightweight for the Conference. Great passer of the ball but got caught in possesion too often and knocked off the ball too easily.

Junior did very well but is getting on a bit. He could still do a job for someone in Conference South or the Ryman maybe Hornchurch or Billericay but feel he's now playing above his level.

As for Dobbo, total legend. Gives 110%, passes the ball well and what a shot he has (Stalybridge FA Trophy) Hope he sorts out his injury problems bevcause would love to see him back in the Yellow shirt. Anybody who nobbles Adam Miller and Kevin Maher is a legend in my book!!

Good news about Wardy and Theobald as well. Both had good seasons and I thought Theo was outstanding in the last couple of games.

From what I hear Keeling has signed for next season which is good news.

Perhaps thats why there is an early clear out.

Get started on a new squad and give them as much time to gel - just got to wait for new signings to be announced.

Smithy & Neil Nidgely have been doing well in recent games, so why let them go.

Think you have to judge them over a season. Many games Midgely went un-noticed or was mullered by some big old Conference players. Smithy also had a few howlers, Woking and Dagenham (Away)- plus comments from Aldershot(both away games)

Presume Kingy is now putting into practice all that he has learnt during the season and knows what style of player and team he wants to create next season and all those that have been released don't fit that profile.

As far as I'm aware Keeling signed an extension to his contract, (an option in his initial deal) - Especially after Hornchurch were reportedly sniffing around for him again.

I am surprised that Smithy has gone, yet Chenery hasn't.

Would love to see Dobbo back for pre-season. We let Spencer Knight try and prove his worth, let's hope Dobbo does the same.

Perhaps I have missed some good in Midgley but he has never excited me as a player, I think it right that he is going. I also agree that Junior has not been the player that I was expecting and has not with us achieved the quality that went before him. Dobbo must be given the chance to show that he can come back from a serious back problem, I have always liked his 100plus% attitude. I also think that there is going to be a few more going and one or two surprises too.

Junior was a good player, I think playing for Canvey was a job. I want players who see playing for Canvey as a vocation.

Junior was better than Greggors, but I would rather have Greggors what he lacked in pace and skill he made up for in the air and with his heart.

I think that is where we have players like Dobbe et al.

Although i'm not surprised Midgley has bee released, i'm surprised at all the slagging off he's getting. Remember, he was playing wing back, when his natural position is just off the front striker (where he played in his league days).

I'm sure if you asked Greggors to do the same roll he wouldn't do it as well.

I thought that right wing back roll was a problem for us, which is why i'm supprised Smithy was allowed to go. He was quite effective for us towards the end of the season at centre back and he could do a very good job on the right if needed.

i liked midgers and he scored some good goals, stevenage away and daggers home and away, but we need quick wingbacks who can whipp in crosses for lee and hopefully a new striker

I think the criticism of Midgley is very harsh. Wing back wasn't his natural position and I felt at times he lacked pace and rarely beat his man. He always worked hard and tracked back and thought he had a decent season. He popped up with some good goals last season, the one against Hallen in the cup, a first time volley also springs to mind.

Once again someone slags off a player anomonously, log in or P!ss off!

Midge, as has been said, was played generally out of position. I for one say thanks Neil, and all the players that have gone, for your efforts this season, and for however long you've been at the club. Good luck in the future, and hope we cross paths again. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/bow.gif" alt="" />
