Election 2005

Recommended Posts

Tiny majority in Gravesham though. If Labour heeds the lessons of why they lost key marginals this time it will be red again. I really don't see it becoming a permanent part of a largely blue south east.

However, I'm going to stick my neck out & say I believe Adam Holloway's promise to fight our corner re a new stadium & the possible re-location of Gillingham. He took the time to email me twice in the week of the election, even though he knew I wasn't go to vote for him & I'm not so blinkered a Labour supporter as to think that you don't get thoroughly decent people on the other side. Nor am I one of those cynics who asserts that all politicians are morally bankrupt liars.

He's given us a commitment on the 4 points I put to him, so it's my place - and that of all Fleet supporters - to keep him to them.

I think you probably shot yourself in the foot and lost Chris his seat Graham. Your comments on Chris and his lack of response to your email maybe swung the the vote in favour of Adam Holloway. Us Fleet fans have been swayed by your comments.

Before anyone gets touchy and takes offence as some do on this forum. I'm only jesting.

Actually, he couldn't reply when I emailed him at the same time as AH because all MPs' email accounts were closed. However, he did answer both times when I emailed him before.

But, as you're only speaking in jest I'll let you off. Funnily enough, a little (no doubt red) devil did sit on my left shoulder & whisper that maybe I shouldn't post Mr Holloway's response, in case it swung anyone in his favour. However, the annoying, harp playing geezer on the other shoulder reminded me that I'd said I would, so I was duty bound to do so.

Shouldn't have committed myself in the first place, I suppose - one of many reasons why I'd never make a successful politician.

Congratulations to Bob for retaining his seat in Medway. An excellent constituency MP and someone who is honest and brave enough to put his head above the parapet even if it is unpopular with the party hierarchy.

Don't usually comment on Political debate....but have seen Adam Holloway in my boozer, but have never seen Mr Pond ever, not even canvassing on my doorstep....so AH gets my vote !! Beer for all !!

Regretfully I cannot see President Tone lowering the duty on beer/cider though...!! An earlier thread referred to the duty on fuel, which was a fair enough comment. But you don't have to go to Texas/Iraq/North Sea to drill up water/hops/apples for beer/cider !

Gallon of petrol = £4 ?

Gallon of Beer = £20 !!

For xxxx's sake, it's only water mixed with hops/apples & fermented !

If we are one happy band of European brothers, howcome our beer is so expensive ??

We brew it here, export it to Europe, and then get on the booze cruise to buy it cheaper and bring it back to whence it originated ! Quite brilliant....NOT !!

As I say, I don't usually comment !!

Regards,

Blair will resign/retire in a couple of years then Gordon Brown will be PM! Well done Labour voters...

A big mistake - nearly everybody thinks that the sun shines out of Brown's backside. God knows why, when he's been merely a lucky chancellor who inherited a fairly healthy economy. Besides, there's a big difference between having to give a budget speech & having to face the families of those killed in Iraq.

Mark my words, people will see a totally different Gordon Brown if it happens & they'll soon tire of him.
