Has anyone out there have a definitive discription of Chavs and Grungies? I'm sure Harry Boy (Allstars) will know this one. As far as I'm aware, a Grunge wears baggy trousers with the crotch around his knees. Goths wear black, but what typifys a Chav.

Greebos rule!! Just got me new Bandit bash hat and it's the mutts nuts. The Stone Island's going in the cupboard for the close season 'cos it's Rally time!! Dig out the old cut-off, hook a tent on the back of the Triumph, perch the old woman on it and ride off to get totally plastered in a muddy field whilst bopping to Motorhead. Bikers. Fantastic!

A "grunger" is a word that has lost its correct meaning due to the chavs thinking that anyone who listens to any music involving guitars is a "grunger". A boy at my school said he liked Darius (pop Idol reject bloke) and because he plays guitar in one of his video, his chav mate said "Darius? He's a [****!!****] grunger." Made me laugh.

Anyone from a blink-182 to a Slipknot fan could be called a grunger by these fools.

It's also people who listen to some mainstream poppy "rock" band (Evanescence, Good Charlotte or someone..) who call themselves grungers. But they all have a bit of chav in them anyway...

I would expect the correct definition of the word would be someone who actually listens to grunge bands - Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Soundgarden etc.

As for chavs, I could tell you but I think these animations do a far better job than I could:

You wear Stone Island, John?

Don't read too much into it, Fleet Loyal. I happen to like S.I. gear, classy stuff with a wicked label. Unfortunately, so do a lot of other people who represent a less savoury side of the beautiful game, one that I certainly don't wish to be associated with.

Darren's animations are brilliant. Put the with some of the defintions here and I think you'll have the picture.

Some similar stuff on Grungers here

As for Goths, try this.

Happy reading.

According to the "peeps" at my school a grunger is someone that listens to rock like me and goes around wearing baggy combats and chains unlike me. A goth is someone that wears black and puts white make up on them. A chav? Well the most i can give you on that is someone wearing hoodies and bubbery caps.

Is that a definition? How odd.

Chav as a term used to be fairly specific eg a common con artist or thief. Now it seems to be used more generally in place of a former linguistic mass favourite, Pikey. When was the last time Pikey was used on this forum as a term of abuse? Now its Chav all the time. Fashions eh!

Ahh finally someone that seems to know what there talking about.

A Chav. Chav is the Romany word for Child or youth. The way we use the word Chav today is in my eyes to define someone who has yet grwon up and fails to take responsability. It is not someone who wears a perticular piece of clothing!

Thank you GNFC Superb.

So a Chav is someone, anyone, that doesn't take responsability. They don't care about Society, the way they look, other peoples property or anything, they are also very greedy they're basically babies in elder peoples bodies.

Grungers still around, or is it now a generic term to describe anyone who likes guitar (ie. decent) music?

I was almost one in the early 90s when Nirvana/Seattle/Sub Pop spawned grunge, but alas my hair grew up instead of down and I couldn't be taken seriously.

The funny thing is though no matter what i go out in i get called a chav when im with my mates.

Granted some times we walk around in trainners, tracksuit bottoms and a hoody with caps on. But for one i never put my hood up and two the only reason i wear my hat indoors is because my hair is normally a mess and can't be assed to do it! And you cant go out lookin bad jus in case !!

However we are hardly ever going around in more than 3 at bluewater, and we do actually shop, belive it or not!

Then other times 3 of us go bluewater, i go in white lacoste trainers, blue ripped jeans, and [****!!****] top with hair styled! lol! And yet still we are chavs

It must be a youth thing! Unless you go around in a suit!!

Another chav thing is going around with no shirt on the minute the sun pokes out from behind the clouds. Especially if you've got a scrawny pigeon chest and a chunky bit of fake gold see-sawing from your neck.

The police were busy throwing such monkeys out of Bluewater last Friday evening.
