Captain Marvel

Recommended Posts

Now the players are back in training and the season is fast approaching (still not fast enough though) who would we all like to see as this season's captain.

For me it has to be Dave 'Mad Dog' Mghee.

He was the captain when at Leyton Orient. He is a great talker & leader on the field, even at reserve games you could hear him for the whole 90 minutes. He is someone that has/will earn respect from the players.

Minton clearly was not up to being captain as he was far to quiet when given the armband & gregory again was far to quiet.

Good question!

Potter? Prefer an outfield player myself

Theobald? Too quite

Sterling? Maybe

Ward? The chance might have passed him by but i`m sure he`d do a good job if it was offered to him.

Duffy? Maybe, but could the rest of the team understand him <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Sedgemore? If he was to play regular he would be my choice

Chenery? Done the job well before but don`t see the point of going back

Kennedy? Again too quite

Keeling? Don`t think it would suit him

Minton? Too quite

McGhee? Plenty of passion and a good talker, the only problem would be how many games he`d play

Gregory? I thought he done the job well before and has the respect of the players, again the amount of games he will play would be a problem

Hallett? Too young, hopefully in the future

Boylan? Sure to play every game he can, a winner. Would not suprise me if he is chosen as captain

Sedgemore or Mcghee for me. They lead by example and have seen it and done it at a higher level.

im with yellow one of the two will do the job well, both big when they play and both shout so for me to pick one i would say whos heads and whos tails but i do think we need a new captain, minton great player but the only time he talks is when his picking what side we kick off!!!

Think Ronin sums it up well.

Have a preferance to see Mcghee have a go (assuming we are consistent in picking a team)

Feel Potter would be good but being the keeper puts me off.

Lee and sedgemore would do a fine job in motivating the team.

Greggors was a good captain IMHO - but I can't see him playing as regularly.

Mints is far to quiet to motivate a team.

I can't see how we cannot be consistently picking Mcghee after his outstanding performances last year. He was our best defender and is definately captain material. And as for that goal against Exeter....!!

You know it and I know it - however, there was an inconsistency with picking players last year and I don't feel IMHO that it was always down to injury. Hopefully the smaller settled squad with a slight formation change will make one hell of a difference to the coming season.

See your point - not sure which position in defence Bunce is happiest playing.

Presume central alongside Theobald, with Mcghee on the right pushing forward into midfield. Sterling on the left pushing forward as well. Theobald also has a bit of pace in getting back into a central defensive role which may cover Bunce lack of pace.

Interestingly you mention Mcghee playing some of his best football in midfield - Sedgemore generally did well when asked to go into a defensive position.

Be interesting to see what line up we start with. All hypothetical and you'll probably find Chenners will start so someone will end up warming the bench.
