I'll be doing the music before the Shrewsbury game next week so I imagine some Guns N Roses and Bon Jovi will be on the playlist.

Nope, cause most modern music is either crap and Chavish...or just crap!!

Besides, none of them would be here today, without some of the influences we've just mentioned above.

so how far do you take it back, guns n roses and bon jovi are influenced by someone, and their influences were influenced.

I do have to agree both bands are [****!!****] awful and are now just party songs rather than anything credible.

recently some of the best music in years has been produced. true enough there is bad music, but there always has been.

I'm just being ignorant cause there are very few bands around today that I actually enjoy listening too.

Bearing in mind I really only listen to Rock/Metal, because I can't stand all that crap on MTV Base, (you should see how engrossed my College was at seeing one black guy on the TV talking, not singing about "cars, bitches and money").

I'd say not many commerical rock bands formed after I was born could have really changed the face of music.

Many of them play a good tune, but then when they open their mouths all that comes out is this whining i.e. Blink 182 etc. - Probably influenced by Guns & Roses, but I'd hope not!

There are some I enjoy - Greenday, (influenced by The Who) for one but I'm just really stuck in an era I wasn't here to witness in person.

What about Freddie or even Lemmy, now we are talking dudesa nd show men

Some records and I mean records not bands change music.

Going right back to Noel Cowards Mad dogs and English Men, Gel Miller in the mood through Bill Hailey Rock Around the clock, Sinatra My Way Beatles Sgt Pepper, Queen Bohemian Rhapsody, Sex Pistols Never Mind The [****!!****], Floyd Dark side of the Moon, Deeple Purple a shade of purple, Elton John Danial, Jacko Thriller, Maddona Virgin, Ace of Base The sign.

Very few bands manage that and Certainly not Oasis, Roses or Jovi for that we can real of super groups on one hand.

Oasis, Roses et al will be looked back as minor bands.

Although I hate both Roses and Oasis, to say they are not important enough to appear on a list like above is insane. both are ground breaking bands that will be remembered for years to come as much as any band on the list (with the exception of ace of base, they will proably go down as the best band ever). Guns and Roses brought a harder edge to rock to a public that was listening to soft sh*t like Bon Jovi, Poison and Def Lepard (I do have a soft spot for def lepard) without breaking into metal and open the doors for countless bands to do the same, appetite for destruction was a pronominal success and is still selling thousands of copies even today. Oasis used the success of great bands like Joy Division/New Order, the Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets and the Stone Roses etc to modify British pop music forever and make brit pop a worldwide phenomenon.

they are both vital bands that will go down in history (mores the pity), but then again so will the spice girls and they certainly aint good

Sorry Ken Oasis are Beatle wannabees on a par with the spice girls, they were in their time considered all that you say but now their time has passed they will not be seen as having such an impact on british music there are far more worthy names to add to the list in front of Oasis.

Particularly if you are talking Pop influences. Bowie, Madness, Happy Mondays, Genesis even the likes of Wham, Bananarama or even Take That will be seen as a greater influence than them in 10 years, wait and see, look at what Robbie and George went on to do. lets see what the Noel & Liam do.

Did you actually put, Wham, Bananarama and Take That in the same category as Bowie. Now that is sinful. To even mention Genesis is punishable by death in some countries I’m sure.

You have to look past personal preference and consider what Oasis done, they didn’t only change the face of British Music, and they increased its influence around the world. 'Defiantly maybe' was probably the defining album of the 90's and there were queues to buy their new one when it came out, they sold out stadium gigs in hours and last year headlined Glastonbury even though they hadn’t done anything for years. In years time people will look back at music from the 90's and they will hear two names Oasis and the Spice Girls, now that pains me because there was some fantastic music about and they certainly weren't it. But to deny they are important is crazy

Sorry Ken 1st for mentioning Bowie and Bananarama in the same breath and 2nd for disagreeing about Oasis, but amongst most serious music journalist there is a recognition of the girls contribution to modern pop, particularly in prepareing the way for womaen to be taken seriously as producers and technicians in their own right.

As for Oasis their contribution to music will be seen as the equivelant of Harry Potters contribution to English literature popular does not mean good.

They queued up for that all night as well, it was exported all over the world and it spawned versions of itself, not a bad yarn but like Oasis commercial, heavily influenced and technically naive.

When analysed in isolation and then compared against their peers, Oasis will be seen as a good band that filled a niche, they will not be seen as major contributors to english music culture.

They have been too heavily influenced by others, to deserve that title you need to influence more than you are influenced.

Do not get me wrong they are not a bad band, who can pen some reasonable lyrics, but to say they modified british music.

No Cigar.
