House on Canvey

Guest

Recommended Posts

I have been coming to Canvey since I was a kid, when I lived in London we came there for my holidays.

Now I live in Basildon, I follow the club and never miss a game.

In fact I have attended most away games and not missed a home game in three years.

There is nothing better to me than a couple of pints down the front and a stroll with the dogs, saturday afternoon watching a match.

Believe it or not I am one of those weird people who like watching on a wet November night.

I was having a pint down the front this afternoon, the boy was crabbing and my missus suddenly says, "lets buy a house on Canvey,I have always fancied living here and I know you do lets sell up and move"

What shall I do, and where would I buy one, help!!!!

I could probably spend £225k - £ 250k at a push maybe £300k what would I get for that and where would I be best to go.

Knowing my luck I could buy near Park Lane and the ground would move to Waterside Farm.

What is it really like living on the Island?

I suggest don't get anyway too near Link Road as it has a dodgy reputation.

Also Furtherwick Road is not too clever as the residents complain about yobs throwing bottles in their garden and worse

Anywhere around Leigh Beck is OK. I live about 5 minutes walk from the seafront and about 10 minutes from the town centre so I'm in an ideal position. That and it's fairly quiet where I live!!!

MOB,

If you still have to travel in the rush hour, then the Island has its traffic problems around that time.

If you do, probably best to get somewhere near Somnes Ave as these are the nearest houses off the Island.

Perhaps for £300k, you may get something over at "60 Acres", if not perhaps around Central Avenue/Church Parade.

As for good and bad areas to live in. To be honest its pot luck and being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I work in Chelmsford and rarely need to be in work before 10.00.

So I am not really worried about traffic.

I am a little concerned that there maybe some big road works coming soon, other than that, I really am looking to find the best part of the Island which is.......?

My wife and her family used to live on Canvey down Temptin Ave. Canvey gives me the hump everyone seemed to know everyone's business. The wife and her family have now been educated and they now all live in ROMFORD HURRAH!!!!

HURRAH!!!!!!!!!! I used to live in Romford and you can shove it up your [****!!****]!!

Chav Heaven especially town centre and Harold Wood. My oldest used to go to Emerson Park and I gotta say I would rather have Basildon.

Of course if you live on an Island you will give up the anonimaty (probably spelt it wrong)that comes from a big city, but there are benefits, many of which I alraedy am aware of.

Dont forget I have been on the Island at least twice a week for a few years and spent many weekends and holidays there.

It really does depend on what's available and some thorough research of different times of day/night.

Saying that though, I would suggest, anywhere in the square block between Canvey Lake, Long Road, Link Road and Furtherwick Road is pretty good, nice and quiet, rarely sees any Chav action and just the odd pissheads from the Oysterfleet/Haystack being loud is the worst it's gonna get.

Thankfully, I live the otherside of the Lake to Link Road, but that is one depressing street to live down including all the avenues off it.

I'm also told all the roads around Newlands and Smallgains are quite good too if you can stand all the Chavs on their Scooters!

Just been chatting with her who must be obeyed, she insists we must have a garden as well!!!

Not fussy about size, but we must not be on a hill, apparently after spending a fortune on our current garden (which is on a hill) we must now have flat.

She likes smallgains, its an easy walk to games etc.

Me I dont fancy that side at all.

Mob,

I would recommend moving towards the point end of Canvey, i am unfortunate to live on furtherwick road near the monico and have to listen to boy racers and drunken Kids and T**ts most nights, if you want peace and quiet then the point is definatley peaceful, plus you are only ten mins from park lane, and a house with a flat garden!!!!

I live just by the haystack and there is no problem with drunken yobs, loudness or anything really. I personally am not a big fan of living on the island, but this last time I have been back it is ok, apart from it is to much of a mission to get anywhere,

I have never found the problem of people knowing your business, there are about 50,000 people on there now so it isn't a little community anymore and everyone's garden is flat, Im not sure there is a hill on canvey, a few bumps perhaps, those crazy Dutch shore knew how to make an island

the only hill on canvey is the old rubbish dump and you wont get a house on that.. well not for another 10 years then they will probably build a load..

60 acres or whatever it is called now is the best place to live.. easy to get on/off the island, you can walk/cycle to the station along the sea wall and get a bus or cycle to the ground, obviously i wouldnt condone cycling home pissed at all in way shape or form whatsoever.. and if they do move the ground to waterside you are sorted

i would probably say castle view estate, 60 acres or what ever, the houses are lovely quick access on and off the island and close to the train station, i live down the point yeah you have no trouble with yobs or anything and it is quiet but its a mission to get anywere and a nightmare to get off the island.

The islands all nice and flat for your garden - just lots of very nice clay, cracked to buggery in the summer and as wet as an old kipper in the winter.

Know people over 60 acres and it seems fine - although road parking seems to be getting worse. Nice location - golf, Waterside and access to sea wall and station.

There was a lot of new houses built around Thorney Bay - although someone said it wasn't as nice as it appeared - also near the sewerage works and the glorious summer smells.

Most places seem OK if they are off the beaten track and are not cut throughs or routes home after closing time. Certainly not as clicky as it used to be many years ago.

Just a matter of investigation and whats actually on the market at the time.

Good luck.

I live off long Road near the village/Charfleets which is genarally OK - although others may have a different opinion.
