as a fan of our great game it is never nice to see a player suffer like dave lee did tonight and his season could be in trouble on game 2 which is never nice i'm sure all gulls fans wish him well.

 

looks like he may have fallen awkwardly causing him that injury going in for the challenge.

Just read that on Conf Guide.

 

Apparently the bone protruded through his foot, a compound fracture it's described as.

 

He's gonna be in Southend Hospital for at least a few days and is gonna be laid off for quite some time.

 

I'm sure we wish him all the best.

The result at Canvey was overshadowed on Tuesday night by an horrific compound fracture suffered by midfield star Dave Lee. Described by the Canvey Island club doctor as one of the worst sports injuries he has seen, a broken bone has protruded through Dave's foot. Dave has been admitted to hospital in Southend where he will undergo surgery tonight and he will remain in hospital for several days.

on the shotsweb it says about a nasty challenge by Mints, but dave lee's uncle said to me he thought the challenge was a fair one, and from where i was standing i thought he ran into Mint's leg and just fell awkwardly

Having been on the Aldershot forum to read up on David Lee, I seem to now be confused on how the injury happened.

 

From what I saw, I made out that both he and Minton had gone up for a header. Lee had won the header but come down and landed awkwardly with all his weight on the leg that broke.

 

Minton had been booked for a foul which I assume was caused in mid-air, (judging by their height difference, I presume Minton was probably holding him) as Lee fell in a heap.

 

Now I've been on the Aldershot forum and they're saying it was a two footed tackle from behind that Minton should've seen a straight red for. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> How can it be two footed if they both went up to head the ball?

The Echo says that while Dave Lee was waiting for the ambulance he stated that he had caught his studs in the ground. I can see why the Shots fans are upset (a lot of our fans still have it in for Bulman over Boylan`s injury) but it looks like one of those freak injuries which happen every now and again in sport.

the aldershot manager said to me that it was one of those things and noone was to blame. i didnt see the incident but none of the aldershot fans i was standing with blamed minton at all and he didnt get booed at any point afterwards. it is probaly statements from people who wernt at the game

I think Shots fans will want to blame someone - especially as he was a key player in amongst an injury hit squad.

 

From where I was standing on the main stand the complete opposite end to where all these opinionated Shots fans were standing it looked as though Lee had control of the ball and Minton from behind or the side swung across the front of Lee to get contact on the ball. If Lee's studs were in the ground this may have caused the damage as Mints partially had hold of Lee as they went down.

 

Trouble is its very difficult to see and judge so there will be many differing accounts.

That's exactly what I saw A Non. Minton came in from the back and definately caught some of the ball, as the ball changed direction.

 

As far as how much contact though, I couldn't tell, as I was on the main stand at the clubhouse end.

Personally I thought it was a bad tackle but I think it's agreed that it wasn't the cause of the injury. I wish him a speedy recovery.

most of the people on the shot message board are saying it was clumsy and defintly not intentional.

Firstly I would like to wish David Lee a speedy recovery he is a very good player and I hope he will be playing again soon.

If the challenge had been really bad then the ref would have a least booked Minton. It really was one of those things and I am sure Minton must feel really bad about it despite it not really being his fault

I didn`t see the ref book Minton but the BBC match report says he was.

Dave Lee is a quality player so hope he makes a quick recovery. As for Mints' challenge it was clumsy rather than being malicious.
