What a [****!!****] afternoon!

It just seemed like a totally lack lustre afternoon. After Aldershot in mid week this was a total let down.

Unlike the start against Aldershot we gently started this game, but with a nice move Duffers put us one up. The game continued in the same pace with the high ball starting to dominate. We just didn't seem to get on top of this game and kill it off.

Afternoon got worse when the linesman bottled a decision and the referee stuck by his decision to award a penalty against Chenners for handball - even though the hand that made contact wore a Red shirt. Total farse.

Lee seemed to be struggling to control the high balls that were being launched forward to him. Why do we get drawn into "who can hoof" the ball furthest against teams who play the long ball?

Towards the end you felt we weren't really going to get anything out of this game and these are games you can't afford to lose.

Keeling livened the game up when he inevitably came on for Clarke. Why does it take 60 minutes to realsie that our forwards weren't getting the quality of service they deserve. Surely Keeling will start in the game against Albion.

Overall no one really impressed - including Minton who was voted as man of the match. I would have gone for Theobald until caught out in the last minute, Keeling for his efforts or even McKinney who ended up having to make a few key saves.

Mints and Sedgemore were struggling to create anything real from midfield.

Can anyone explain why Sedgemore (Midfield) was subbed by Sterling (Defence) when we needed to up the anti? Perhaps Mario should have been on the bench.

G&N as a team were under pressure and we should have increased that instead we throw away 3 points and now have to try and grab them back against Albion next Saturday. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

If we play like that we'll be relegated. Simple as. We weren't at the races today and credit to Gravesend they battled. They are not a bad side and have some decent players.

McKinney for me was Man of the Match. Made some outstanding saves and kept us in the game.

I dont recall our keeper having too many saves to make.

You had an early free kick that he didwell to get down to, the goal and one other shot scuffed wide of the far post in the first half.

In the second, you had the Boylan free kick and the follow up effort, plusthe Keeling run in our keeper, but other than that, I dont recall him doing much other than claiming high balls (extremely well at that).

Your keeper made several excellent saves by contrast.

On that basis, I felt we shaded it (your best period was the first 20 or 25 minutes), although the penalty was rather dubious to say the least (based on your fans comments).

i think we just didnt play well to many long balls up to 2 quite short strikers.the pen was never a pen but i think u earn your luck and we just didnt deserve anything from the game

Last season 04-05, is back with us again, it appears we are no better.

Crap team selection, crap hoofing display of football, a dozen minutes out of 90 with ball being pushed around on the deck, crap hoofing display + crap hoofing display and yet more hoofing. We can all see it, why cant the selectors, coaching staff.

Minton was never MOM, everyone around me was astonished, there was only one MOM today and that was the keeper.

Why is it I do not hear a warning from team members when an opposing player is bearing in on one of ours?

We piddle about with ball and get caught in possesion time and time again, we are beaten to the ball again and again.

John Kennedy is more effective in a wide birth, heis not and does not look comfortable in the central birth.

Altogether, one of the worst displays by a Canvey team that I have witnessed and from what I saw today our gates are going to tail off even more.

Yeh, in the friendlies Yellow, and are you talking about our Team.

You know and do most honest people who are not connected to the club in any shape or form will agree with me about yesterday and what I said above.

Jeff said that Keeling had a poor pre-season, well for me there were a few prominent players that have started every game so far who have also had a poor pre-season, why arnt they starting on the sub bench or playing in the reserves.

We witnessed 10 maybe 12 minutes of good football from Canvey throughout the game yesterday, a goal was the result and the rest was just hoof, something needs to be sorted.

Against Aldershot our goals came when we actually played it on the deck, Not exactly rocket science is it.

We always start a game with good intentions and then 10 maybe 15 minutes into it we revert to the hoof ball, if you cant see that than I worry for you!

Dont say to me or anyone else that we are only into our third game, thats a crap statement.

Keeling came on and we had width and we started to put Gravesend under pressure, Ibe came on and it was even brighter but our strikers arnt six feet plus tall, they are goig to be swamped out by defenders, the answer is play it to foot not to head.

What sticks out like a sore thumb is that we take too long on the ball, We need someone to kill the ball and slot it through from midfield to the strikers, Noto where was he, on the bench no, was he playing for the reserves? but why.

If we're gonna keep hoofing the ball like we did yesterday we need a bit of difference in our line-up.

May I suggest having Gregory and Ibe up front? Then Dave McGhee rather than Minton?

Another thing from yesterday. How good was the play between Ibe and Sterling? Have they played together before?

well for my first viewing of the season that was pretty average.. i felt the fleet deserved the points but both teams had pretty poor games.. at least in the second half fleet put together some neat midfield passing moves.. chenners and theobald did ok today but once we had the ball it went downhill pretty fast.. the second half was all longball hoofs to lee and j.k. whose combined height is less than 6 foot!.. after about ten minutes of that i was praying we would bring on greggors !!

as for j.k.s return to form mentioned on a previous thread, that is down to him being played out wide, simple as that.. he is not a central midfielder and playing him there for the last 18 odd months is what fked his game up...

also if we are going to belt it into the corners why dont duffers and j.k. switch ? putting duffers down the line for a high ball against a short full back has been very effective for us in the past,

all in all mildly depressing to watch.. the penalty decison was a complete joke and the mini scrap livened up an otherwise dull afternoon... i have to say that even if we had nicked a last minute winner it would have merely disguised some pretty poor fare..

still thats football lets hope the next game is a better performance
