Lets Boycott BBC ESSEX

They do not deserve local following, before we got in the Conference they highlighted an Essex team every week.

Now we are in the conference live commentary goes to West Ham.

They are not an Essex team BBC ESSEX are chasing ratings, if they were genuine "BBC Essex" we would expect to hear occassional live coverage of a Canvey game.

We should rename them BBC East London because they put a London team above us.

Ratings that is all they are about. I for one will never listen to them again while they put West Ham above an Essex team.

Do not get me wrong I have no problem with West Ham but could you imagine BBC London supporting Liverpool.

How are our local sides supposed to develop a local fan base when our local radio station supports a non Essex Club just to boost its ratings.

Get them off!! our FORUM and get them on a London site where they belong.

One of the reasons I looked forward to coming out of the Ryman was to hear the occassional commentary of Canvey games as at that time they used to follow local sides. As soon as we got promoted, they follow West Ham.

I know there are more supporters of West Ham in Essex than there are Canvey supporters, our local radio station should support our local team and not chase ratings.

I have decided to start a campaign and I have two messages

(1) BBC Essex we are not in London!!!!

(2) Any supporter of an Essex football team caught listening to BBC Essex sports coverage could wake up kissing Shergar.

I am about to start pushing this message across all Essex boards please join me, spread the word.

Unless of course you do not agree.

I for one would support CLASSIC GOLD, top music as well.

I do also but sometimes in the stand it is good to listen to your local station supporting your local club.

The big thing for me is! there might just be some kid sitting at home listening to his radio on a saturday afternoon, at a loose end with nothing to do.

If he listens to our LOCAL radio station instead of taking a walk across the island to come and join us he is gonna be jumpimg a train to Green Street.

BBC Newham or

BBC ESSEX

Thats the point!!

How many live games have we had, compared to conference teams the year before last.

We are the team they put on if nothing else is happening.

I say [****!!****] em!! The support we get from Classic Gold and tonights commentary from Conf TV was much better and I aint gotta pay for it.

It does always seem that Dagenham get the first refusal on Conference games.

Wasn't it last season, they suggested that only our away games were to be covered live?

MOB, I think if you're going to go on a campaign with this, Billericay might be interested...or was that with the Evening Echo? <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I know they had commentary of Grays v Hereford and i`m sure Dagenham were on the week before, i suppose with 3 Essex teams in the Conference we`ll be on less this season. I thought tonights commentary was very good.

At the moment i think the BBC have the rights for the Conference games so you won`t be hearing any on Classic Gold.

What wet blankets we are compare the coverage conference sides got a couple of years ago, the coverage was reasonably fair, now there are more teams, instead of building on that.

They switch to a London Club.

Come on!!!!

BBC Essex should be about ESSEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats what it says on the tin.

Admittedly the commentary tonight was good and they had Ben Chenery as the Canvey connection.

However, I don't recall ever listening to a Canvey home game live from Park Lane on a Saturday afternoon, (someone feel free to correct me) since before we got promoted.

I am often called into work on a Saturday afternoon/evening and therefore can't make many games but when I turn the radio on at work to BBC Essex most of the time it's Colchester and/or Southend being commentated. If it's not them then it's Dagenham and more recently Grays.

They did have coverage of Grays -V- Hereford while we were at Burton.

This season so far, I think it's been 1-1 with us and Grays, I think Dagenham have had 1 as well and I know Colchester have had one.

Very little is mentioned of Thurrock, Billericay, Braintree, Heybridge, Wivenhoe and even Hornchurch.

I think Billericay had a grievance with the Echo and Dick Marshall in particular.

Hornchurch did get a mention last Saturday actually. Think they had a reporter at one of the FA Cup games.

I don't get a chance to listen to their sports coverage because most of the time I'm at the matches. I do listen of a morning but in my opinion I've never been a big fan of their sports coverage. From what they say they're always making out that Southend are some great team and Freddy Eastwood is amazing. At best they're both ordinary!!!

Bang on Yellow!!

And they have got the front to start using our forum to promote their coverage.

Do me a favour in your programme notes ask them the question, are they BBc Essex or BBC Newham.

I bet there response is all about the number of listeners who support West Ham, Essex/East London links and all that [****!!****].

We want Essex teams on BBC Essex, that aint complicated is it?????

If I want to listen to West Ham I'll listen to them on Capital Gold.

Funnily enough, I'm writing a column for the West Ham boys of 86 game so might be rather apt to mention it then.
