Just like the old days.

I’ve just come back from watching one of the best afternoon’s football at Park Lane for a long, long time. It was a reserve game against Barnston in the Premier Cup and as an entertainment spectacle, it was simply brilliant.

Just like the old days; I didn’t feel ‘fleeced’ when I paid my admission fee, the bar was comfortably busy (and open at half-time!), the banter with the Barnston keeper was top-class and we won 5 – 0. But it wasn’t so much the size of the win, it was the style of the win. The young lads gave 110% for the entire 90 minutes and with every ball there was fight, commitment and determination. I can’t remember the last time I saw this level of passion from a Canvey team. Even Gary Britnell at 83 years of age was pure class and an example to any student of the game. And these lads are playing not for a big pay packet, but simply for the love of the game and of the club.

The craic on the terraces was just like the old days with the keeper responding so well to the stick he was being given. Bit like last Sunday’s game with the heroes and legends – there was so much enthusiasm both on and off the field that anyone watching felt involved and drawn in to the action.

I realise I can’t live in the past and that Canvey FC has moved on, but sometimes in life don’t you think we are guilty of throwing away the baby with the bathwater?

It was a really enjoyable game. Both teams came to play football, and it was played in the right spirit. The banter between the keeper and the Canvey fans behind the goal sounded all good fun, and their keeper was very complimentary afterwards.

Anyone who hasn't tried a reserve game yet it's definately well worth a go!

I was there also and have to agree with Merv, it was csuch a pleasure to some true grit and determination.

Well Chris G, at the rate the reserved are being watched, you just might be able to fill an away coach to watch the reserves.

I just wonder! if that were to be the case, how would the powers suurounding the first team react.

For the life of me, I just cannot understand why Conroy does not figure in the first team? Silly me, I should know the answer to that! He is young, he is fast on and off the ball, fitness fit and committed, yes you have got it; he wouldnt fit in, would he!!

The reserves once again impressed me. They play some brilliant football. Ive seen them a fair few times this season and most teams just cant cope with the football and the pace that we attack.

Mitchell Looks a class player, scoring another screamer. Also really glad to seet Brits score, loudest cheer of the day.

Shame about one of the Linesman, Hey Glen <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
