Add another drum or two and he might start hearing something!

I really don`t know what the people of Canvey do on a Saturday afternoon, ok a lot more people have to work and quite a few travel to watch their league clubs but what about the rest they can`t all have taken up the nations worst sport SHOPPING!

All you hear and read is that there`s nothing to do and nowhere to go on Canvey for young people but there is a local football club who would love to have them come along to support their team.

As Anon E Mouse pointed out in his post i don`t think it`s "trendy" or "hip" (do the kids still use those words) to watch Canvey, how do we change this? Maybe we should tell people that Robbie Williams has bought a season ticket

On the basis of what MOB said, I've been to about half our league games this season and two away games - Accy and York. What does that make me?

A bad omen at away games - we lost them both

Didn't deserve to though.

Perhaps we are assuming that "new support" should be young lads rather than young girls - at the end of the day they want equality and their money is as good as anybody elses

I have recently heard a number of discussions regarding "girls teams" - it may be easier to attract them to a game as they have not always been so tainted by "fashionable football" and really just want to play the game.

Also heard during the half time interval at Forest Green about their ladies team in action against Slough in the cup - should the club have a ladies team and would this help attract a greater audience?

Sounds feasable but are there enought ladies interested. I know there is already a womens team on the island who play at Waterside.
Mind you - on the other hand who would be doing the training.
I'd be GK if the right trainer came along lol

We could always ask Danny Potter to undertake the training - how would that suit?

Ow well it was just an idea and there isn't anyone to really organise it.

I've seen the West Ham United ladies team training and it's taken very seriously - skills wise it would also put a few of our first team players to shame better to watch as well

Just my views.

On a personal note, I have a lot more money going out each month than comes in. I try to watch as much football as I can, but what common sense is in me tells me not to go at times, just because we haven’t got the money.

Having said that, I will always have debts to pay, but don’t just want to sit at home and never do anything and I try to do what I actually want to do for the short time I will be on this planet.

I’m sure there are many others out there who just can’t afford things nowadays and people are living off a lot more credit than they used to. There will be a lot more people losing their homes in future because pay back time will be coming soon.

People have different circumstances and outlooks and just make their choices really.

When we have larger numbers turn up for the more what you would call noticeable games, that goes with just about any other club in the country as well.

To attract more through the gate, what I would say is that the club needs to relocate to Waterside.

The club is so tucked up in that end of the Island that no wonder it sort of gets forgotten in a way.

With the Goldmine and Kings Club closing, what else has the Island got that will bring numbers onto it. It’s only the club, and that’s in a hidden part of town at the mo.

It needs bringing out into the open, and made appealing. I’m sure in time that homes will also go up on land on the Northwick side of the Island. Numbers through the gate would come from there also as its easily accessible.

It would be great to see this at some stage and then I believe that people would really see that football has arrived here and everyone’s deadly serious about it, as we know they are!

Imagine seeing a stadium every time you go off and on the Island? It really would send out a message.

Only got to find a formula now to pay for it!

Totally agree Phil Old Boy.

The new ground is critical - yet nothing has been seen or heard of it for quite some time. I also feel that it's location is not ideal but a new location at Waterside would hold so many plus points. It just seems to have stagnated a little with no news on progress.

As you say there is very little reason for anyone in Benfleet or other surrounding areas to come onto the island - but Canvey has long been known for it's close knit community - perhaps we are outgrowing that? and suggestions of involving schools, local kids clubs, womens teams etc. that involve the community shouldn't be ignored and can only help in making people aware of the club and drawing even more supporters into a hopefully new stadium.

I'd love to see us playing at Waterside. Ripping up three of their pointless pitches and laying down a nice stadium with a bar and car park would be great. Being able to see it as people drive onto Canvey would make a real impact and maybe they'd decide that this weekend they'd go and watch Canvey. Where we're currently situated, there's not much chance of that.

[ Two questions:

1) Why's King's closing?
2) What's the 'Goldmine'?

Think he's talking about Kings as in the nightclub. I used to frequent that place every thursday, Friday and Saturday in the early 80's, stay in a van for the night, nutty DJ (Johnny Clarke). The Goldmine was along from Thorney Bay - another club great soul nights (cant think of the DJ but he was wicked). It closed early - mid eighties. Blocks of flats there now!
Those were the days.

why do most people say if we moved to waterside we would get more supporters, most people would still have to drive. maybe you'll get some more from Benfleet if it was closer for them, but then you'll lose some from the point. most people don't walk so how putting it next to waterside is this going to help, if you can get to waterside you can get to the Lane.

i think we should be looking in other areas to get people in.

when we have a big fan base then look at a new stadium, it has got to be paid for don't forget

I think that Yellow's post yesterday just about hit the button. Back in the 60's I used to go to Hackney Speedway every Friday, but thinking back there were times when we left the track saying "what a load of rubbish", but we were always back for the next game.

Yellow implies that watching a match is addictive and I agree. All you regulars will always go to each match good or bad, but all it takes is to miss a game or two, for whatever reason and suddenly the addiction is not there and it becomes easy to just not go. and once you don't go to two or three matches, you don't go to five or six matches and then you don't go at all.

The gist of this posting is to say that no matter what is put before the public, the regulars will always go and the "ifs and buts" might if they feel like it. There is no way that I know of that will change the habits of a lifetime for people.

Sure we must always try to attract more people, but I think that only a sucessful team will do this. Just look at the Southend attendances this season compared to when they were trying to escape relegation to the Conference.

I agree that a new ground might help, but we are in a catch22 situation insomuch as why do we need a new ground when we have such little support, but do we have such little support because we only have an old ground?

If I knew the answer maybe I'd be rich!!

Its a pain in the neck on match days trying to get from one end of the island to the other. Although people would still have to drive it would be much easier traffic wise to get to Waterside.
Parking facilities would also be better. Parking at the lane is very limited and unless you get to car park early or park on the grass (which when muddy aint all that unless you have 4X4) your stuffed and have to park streets away!
On a personal note i'd prefer Sadlers Farm - 5 min walk across the field so much more alcohol could be consumed
